Rush Limbaugh has posted a statement on his website this afternoon, forwarded by his brother David (one of my friends on line), apologizing for calling Sandra Fluke an insulting name while discussing her claims. It’s impossible to retain the context of his apology by excerpting it, so I hope Rush will not mind me posting it in its entirety:
For over 20 years, I have illustrated the absurd with absurdity, three hours a day, five days a week. In this instance, I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation. I did not mean a personal attack on Ms. Fluke.
I think it is absolutely absurd that during these very serious political times, we are discussing personal sexual recreational activities before members of Congress. I personally do not agree that American citizens should pay for these social activities. What happened to personal responsibility and accountability? Where do we draw the line? If this is accepted as the norm, what will follow? Will we be debating if taxpayers should pay for new sneakers for all students that are interested in running to keep fit?In my monologue, I posited that it is not our business whatsoever to know what is going on in anyone’s bedroom nor do I think it is a topic that should reach a Presidential level.
My choice of words was not the best, and in the attempt to be humorous, I created a national stir. I sincerely apologize to Ms. Fluke for the insulting word choices.
I think Rush did the right thing in apologizing to Fluke. However, let’s keep in mind that it was Fluke who made her sexual activity a matter of national political debate by insisting that the government pass laws and regulations forcing employers and insurers to provide her free contraception, and apparently as much as she and others demand. It’s Republicans who believe that contraception should remain a private affair, and that employers and insurers should be free to decide whether to cover contraception for their employees and customers or not. Democrats used Fluke to demand that those choices be stripped from private enterprises and instead be forced by the executive branch to entirely subsidize contraception.
That is the argument we should be making, as Republicans and conservatives. If you want your sexual choices to remain private, don’t use the government to force other people to subsidize them. Then we won’t have to turn the sex lives of Georgetown law school students into topics for political speculation.
Update: Along those same lines, does Donna Brazile also now oppose the government mandate to force employers and insurers to have a role in the decision to use contraception? She tweeted this message not too long ago (via Keder):
Agree! The government should have no role in contraception, and shouldn’t force employers or insurers to have a role in it, either. Keep it between the woman, her sexual partner, and her doctor. Well said.
Oh, wait, Brazile meant this in support of the mandate? She seems just as badly misinformed on the issue as her media colleagues … or as deliberately obtuse.
“Fluke is a 30 year old democrat activist. Does that matter?”
Nope. Not a damn bit.
The only thing that matters is THE NARRATIVE.
Telling the truth is now a hate crime.
George Orwell made a living writing books about this.
ATTENTION DEMOCRATS:
“1984” was supposed to be a WARNING, not an operations manual.!
Rush is just calling them like he seems ‘em.
$3,000.00 per year on BC?
$8.33 per day?
That’s a girl that “gets around” to put it mildly.
Rush didn’t.
I’m sure Rush pays for his Viagra, not you and I like we do for this Fluke girl and her sexual escapades.
This woman Fluke is a cretin and a liar. A paid hack. Rush simply carried her lies to their logical conclusion, figuring that if students needed $1000 to pay for contraception each year, they are getting more sex than minks. He was really calling her out as a liar, and his rant was hysterically funny, and right on point. Bob
The women on the left are always marching with signs stating that the “Government should stay out of their womb” but want the Government to pay for their BC, abortions and the treatment of their sexually transmitted diseases from their bed-hopping.
Can’t have it both ways.
It’s one or the other.
Pick one and then STFU.
FLUKE stated that some were paying $1000 per year b/c insurance wouldn’t cover it. And, oh the embarrassment! Since women can get the pill for under $10 per month at Wal-Mart, she is a liar and a creep. Rush’s comments were NOT out of line. These frauds get paraded before Congress all the time, and I’m proud of Rush for ridiculing her prepared spiel. Bob
Not at all. I think that his audience is smart enough to know what he was talking about. It’s b/c of weaklings such as Boehner, McConnell and a former recent GOP President that Democrats get away with such bilge passing for argument. THEY should have been challenging her, not Rush.
That we do. Good fortune, and all the best to you.
And to you.
Before Barry Goldwater went completely off the conservative ranch he wrote a book called “With No Apologies”. In it he illustrated the political negative associated with apologizing even if you are at fault. Just don’t do it.
Is it even possible for entertainers to sincerely apologize?
$$$ talks
Maybe they just don’t like the s-word?
I agree. He did the right thing. He outfoxed and outmaneuvered the leftists that were counting on getting rid of Rush and trying to destroy him.
And all of the whiners here that are now turning on Rush were not fans or supporters of him in the first place. They couldn’t be if they could or would turn on him so easily and so quickly. Ergo, no big loss!
Rush will go on and be stronger than ever now. And God help us if we ever have to depend on some of the gutless wonders we have posting at FR these days. It is reminiscent of the days right before the 2006 election. You know...the one where we lost the farm....literally...to the SocialCrats.

Its amazing to me how many have missed the brilliance of what Rush did here.
Had he not said anything, the narrative would have been Rush called her a slut. End of story. A distortion, but Rush would have lost in the court of public opinion.
As it is, he retracts NOTHING but that word slut. And in his apology, which will be read by possibly millions of females who would never tune into his show, he gets to reiterate his brilliant points once more, and again devastates the arguments of Nancy Pelosi and the feministas.
Read the apology again. it is basically a synopsis of everything he said in his show, which was AWESOME.
It is a master stroke of genius, which has eluded those who arent nearly as smart as El Rushbo.
DONT doubt him. ;-)
Except Rush is NOT a politician. He is an entertainer with sponsors. When Carbonite, who appears to back politically conservative entertainers, cancels this quick it should send up a red flag. They know that he has stepped into verboten territory. As much as an idiot as Fluke is, you can’t attack private citizens like that, even if it is in jest. Unfortunately, use of the word ‘slut’ took the focus off of her moronic statements and put the bullseye on his back. People that defend what he said need to reassess their tactics. Their message, not their persons, need to be attacked. All in all, I’m pretty sure that Rush will survive this. But he may be the only talk show host who could.
You are right ....He could have ridiculed her a whole lot more just by repeating her own words and letting people draw their own conclusions. He could have probably gotten away with posing the question “ What do we call someone who wants money for sex? and not directly answering it
While Rush is busy apologizing I am wondering gee how proud are her parents. The libs putting her out there is so consistent with the Ameritopia mindset. No religion, anything goes and the rest of us should support it or there is something wrong with us. No morality even you can leave religion out of it.
Rush is taking a page from Obama’s play book. By apologizing, he is calming the storm in the same way Obama calmed the rioting Muslims. We will see how much the rabid left is like the rabid Taliban in a few days. Will they stop their war against the apologetic Rush? Or will the war continue?

Rush betrayed us. He lost me today. Ive listened and been informed since 1991. Rush was by far our most influential advocate, until now. Today, we lost the election, and the country.

Evidently, the left-wing’s coordinated assault against Rush’s advertisers was having a detrimental impact as a half dozen sponsors were either pulling their ads or threatening to do so. I posted a news article about this under the “Breaking News” and “Front Page News” sections earlier today hoping to get enough of us to contact Rush’s advertisers and voice our support for him. I must say, I’m HIGHLY disappointed and in disbelief that Rush caved and issued an apology to that slutty idiotic law school student. If he would’ve only held firm for a few more days as more and more of us were contacting his sponsors, then this whole thing would’ve probably blown over. Now, you can bet the left will only be more emboldened by this... These sharks smell blood in the water and are going to continue assaulting Rush more than ever over this incident and will be screaming for him to be taken off the air. I never thought I’d see the day when he of all people would capitulate to left-wing pressure. Never!
Meanwhile, I can honestly say I have come to truly DESPISE liberals/progressives/socialists/Marxists and I’m now even more energized and determined to defeat them more than ever!

That is quite funny. He is sorry for his choice of words...not the opinion he holds.
He pretty much had to say something to end the discussion - it only harms the right at a very important time.

How has this whole controversy surrounding contraception and religious freedom harmed us?? If anything, I think it’s made the left look REALLY bad. That’s why I believe Rush made a BIG mistake capitulating to these heinous left-wingers and apologizing. He really shouldn’t have done it.

Fluke became a public figure the moment she testified before a committee of congress-Rats. Public figures are fair game for criticism and commentary.
Rush should not have apologized. He described her accurately. Sometimes the truth hurts, but it’s still true.
