Congress held a lengthy hearing Thursday morning on the health reform law’s mandated coverage of contraceptives, probing whether the provision violates religious liberties.
The hearing has gotten a lot of attention not necessarily for what happened there, but what didn’t. Namely, no one testified in favor of the contraceptives mandate. Moreover, no women participated in the first, three-hour panel (two women did testify against the provision in the second panel.)
The Democrats did, however, invite one woman to speak: Sandra Fluke, a third-year student at Georgetown Law and past president of the school’s Students for Reproductive Justice group. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), who chaired the hearing, said the minority party had submitted her name too late to be considered (Democrats contest this). I caught her outside the hearing room, and we spoke about what she would have told the committee......

Fluke says she would have used the hearing to talk about the students at Georgetown that don’t have birth control covered, and what that’s meant for them. “I wanted to be able to share their stories,” she says. “My testimony would have been about women who have been affected by their policy, who have medical needs and have suffered dire consequences.. . .The committee did not get to hear real stories I had to share, about actual women who have been dramatically affected by this policy.”
I asked Fluke what she’s learned about reproductive health politics over the past few months, as the nation has debated the role of contraceptives coverage in health reform. “Sadly, I think what I have learned is how willing some members of our government are to play political football with women’s health,” she says. “That has been heartbreaking to watch.
Fluke plans to continue working on the issue to ensure that the health reform regulations do eventually require Georgetown University to provide birth control to its students. SheÂ’s keeping an eye both on the accommodations the White House rolled out last month, as well as a separate regulation on student health plans now being reviewed by the Office of Budget and Management. ThatÂ’s the regulation that will determine whether the no-copay birth control provisions also apply to student health plans.

I still think she is a demonrat shrill plant. She chose a Catholic school that doesn’t offer birth control, with the express intent of trying to change it. If she could get accepted into Georgetown, she could get into many other top tier law schools that DO cover it....

A mother was confronted on twitter as to why her daughter needed $50.00 a month contraception instead of Target or Walmart $9.00 a month RX.
Said her daughter needed the $50.00 a month type.
I didn’t know colleges give health insurance to students. Hell, if that’s the case, why don’t we all enroll in college on government grants and we’ll all be covered.
I don't believe people should be sleeping around outside of marriage. That said, it certainly is legal behavior if people want to do that - but don't ask for other people to pay for your behavior - take responsibility.

I’d really like Fluke to define the above claim. Does she not understand there are also ‘dire consequences’ and risks associated with taking chemical birth control? such as blood clots, high blood pressure, strokes, heart attacks and future infertility?
Then why did she and these other women go to Georgetown lawschool? Go somewhere else if you don’t like their policy. No one forces you to choose that school. So now she’s testifying to have the GOVERNMENT force this school to doing something contrary to its own values?
I can understand why people would have been upset at Rush’s choice of words...when I first heard him say that I thought it was over the top and knew what was probably going to be coming. That said, why are people so upset over that vs. the complete nonsense Fluke is going around saying? That’s offensive as well. She should be embarrassed.
Rush was only partially correct when he called her a whore. She is a publicity whore with a chip on her shoulder against the Jesuits.

The mother’s daughter was not sleeping around outside of marriage. That I know of. Her daughter had one child and could not afford another. And her monthly costs was $50.00 for birth control.
What she was saying is her daughter needed free birth control because they had no money. In one tweet she said they needed to save for college fund for the baby.
In other words, taxpayers owe her daughter what she can’t afford.
This mother was making things up as she went along and got all tied up in her lies. At one point tweeting her daughters BC was not free. She said I pay 1200.00 a month for HC ins. She was asked why she paid for her married daughters insurance. Then said I did not say that.
I guess she meant she pays for insurance for herself so her daughter has right to free BC.
The STD’s, HIV, infertility and cancer was all brought up on twitter. Asking Pelosi, Obama et al if they would pony up the costs for some of the side effects of birth control. Will liberals next entitlement be free invitro because BC detroyed getting pregnant naturally?!
Many of these entitled have been asked to use condoms or other less costly BC. No, they are entitled to the easiest for them.
