In a sign of where Newt Gingrich thinks he can or needs to gain ground, his GOP presidential campaign on Thursday launched a round of robocalls in both Oklahoma and Tennessee, accusing Rick Santorum of being a union lackey.
My AJC colleague Daniel Malloy, who has been traveling with Gingrich, says campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond has been trying out a new line, saying Santorum must deal with his Jimmy Hoffa problem explaining why he tried to bury his big-labor voting record in the end zone of this primary. The robocall is Gingrichs first paid-media swipe at Santorum.
-snip-
Santorum has said he supports right to work laws but he did not want to override his own state of Pennsylvania, which did not have a right-to-work law. Georgia and most Southern states do.

Rick also didn’t work as an “historian” wink wink, for Fannie and Freddie. wink wink.
"In a few short days, Republicans from across this country will decide more than their party's nominee. They will decide the very future of our party and the conservative coalition that Ronald Reagan built.
Conservatives can no longer afford to stand on the sidelines in this election, and Governor Romney is the candidate who will stand up for the conservative principles that we hold dear," said Senator Santorum."
Does anybody under 50 even know who Hoffa was?
No, but this ad will help Willard save some money.
Attorney Rick never has done much of anything of note, he isn’t the history making type guy, and especially not a historic conservative figure like Gingrich.
Come on- red- you know I was on that hours ago. Get up to speed, man-— Jimmy Hoffa...call your office. -:)
Hoffa remains a part of the culture and is still a cultural mystery, especially to those with an interest in unions.
Hoffa’s son is current head of the corrupt Teamster’s union.
There will be a forum with all candidates on Huckabee this Saturday evening. At least FOX has announced it.
You’re gonna call someone out on hyperbole? For real?
There is enough room for ALL conservatives as long as they remember Reagan’s 11th.
And help support Jim site whenever it’s needed.
Yeah, why not?
Cool.
I guess when all you have is hyperbole, it makes it easier to accuse others of it.
Sammy,
The key word is always “ever” when it comes to hyperbole : )
And now you know.
“Rick never has done much of anything of note, he isnt the history making type guy”
He ran because he was unemployed and all he knows what to do is be a politician.
Santorum figured maybe he get lucky as a VP. He couldn’t have possibly figure he would do this well at the start.
The man lost by 20 points IN HIS OWN STATE last time he ran.
As Senator he voted pro-labor — that isn’t conservative.
He has no management experience and wants to run the largest organization in the world? Voters tried that last time and it didn’t work out well.
This guy is a near nobody who would lose bigger than Great Mittens the Mormon Savior.
Shiites, for whom Jihad Suicide and Ritualized Pain are cornerstones of their faith, actually seek Armageddon by Fire for the whole world.
Yes, they will all be killed too, but it's OK! You see, they will go straight to Firdous to be served by Infidel and "Bad" (i.e. non-Shiite) Muslim slaves for all eternity.
Then, Allah will reconstitute the burned out, but purified Earth as a Shiite Country Club sort of operation to create Paradise on Earth.
I wish I were kidding.
So basically, there is no use in threatening Shiites with death. It is a death cult.
“I do think, outside of industrial states, having been a very big union senator, having voted against right-to-work, having voted for Davis-Bacon, which cost billions of dollars in order to prop up the unions and having voted for every minimum wage increase the unions wanted, Santorum has a harder time when he gets outside the industrial states,” Gingrich said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”
