OMAHA, Neb. Former Sen. Bob Kerrey is reversing course and says hell seek the Democratic nomination for the Nebraska seat he once held.
Kerreys announcement Wednesday comes just weeks after he publicly rejected a run to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson. Its also just two days before Nebraskas candidate filing deadline.
The 1992 presidential candidate and former Nebraska governor previously said not running was in his familys best interest.
Kerreys announcement gives new hope to national Democrats desperate to stop Republicans from netting four Senate seats this fall and regaining control of the chamber.
But its also sure to create state party friction. Fellow Democrat Chuck Hassebrook stepped into the race after Kerrey bowed out and gave up a University of Nebraska regent seat hes held for nearly 18 years.

See ya at the movies!

DOes he have to live there in order to file for the office, or does he have until November to actually buy a house in his “home state”?
“Well the GOP needs this seat after the obvious Dem led stunt pulled last night with Olympia Snowe...”
Yep, looks like the GOP is going to have to make up for the loss of retiring RINO Snowe and a possible Scott Brown loss in Mass. Assuming losing those 2 seats, they are going to have to find a turnover of 6 seats in the other Senate races to reach a majority.
First, the RATS dragged Lautenburg out of the nursing home to get Bob “The Torch” Torricelli’s seat. Now they drag out this washed up has been, after Ben Nelson decided to spend more “time with his family”.
This crap NEVER ends.
I hope Nebraska knows whats going on and kicks him to the curb.
Great. Another ex-pol with “Lautenberg Syndrome”.
he looks more like Spicoli’s teacher at Ridgemont High.
It can't be good for the dimwitocrats when they keep pulling these has been fossils out of retirement to run for office.
This reminds me of Mondale and Lautenberg running for senate...and Lautenberg wining of course.
Mr. Hand.
Looks like all those gracious freepers who (when he initially declined to run) praised his military service (which was far far far outweighed by his horrible Senate voting record) have been caught with egg on their faces. This jerk is an enemy of America.
The old heel is gonna lose. But it will force money to be wasted to in the state. And we should probably nominate Jon Bruning (some worry about his record) over multiple-time loser Don Stenberg. However, the polls I saw have Stenberg leading Kerrey as well.
He’s not gonna win, but we’ll have to waste money beating him.
Jim Bruning has proven to be a flawed candidate, with past liberal statements, avoidable gaffes, and a possible conflict-of-interest situaion. I prefer Don Stenberg.
Played by My Favorite Martian.
OMG he looks horrible. Not a chance of winning...
I doubt he’d need to buy. A weekly rental motel will give him an address.
Cornhusker Kickback Nelson ruined his own and any other Democrat’s chance to win this seat in 2012. NE isn’t NJ where a liberal dinosaur hack like the Laut can just waltz in and take over.
I can’t imagine in this day and age Kerrey believing he will win, but the game is to take money away from other close races.
With Snowe retiring, taking the Senate becomes more of an uphill battle. Darn it.
I don’t think it’s gonna come down to 1 seat anyway.
I projected anywhere from 53-56 seats. Just subtract 1 (probably we have a chance to hold Maine especially if that kook Pingree is the nominee)
Back from the dead, how will they keep him alive long enough to make a run?
Ditto for Mike Ditka.
Yes that’s a long time ago and I believe before my time? Maybe? He died recent didn’t he?
