The Justice Department will defend against any legal challenge to the new Obama administration mandate to force employers to provide abortion-inducing drugs, sterilization and contraception, even if it goes against their conscience, Attorney General Eric Holder told a House subcommittee Tuesday. The Department of Health and Human Services rule, part of Obamacare, violates the freedom of conscience for Catholics and other religious groups that expressed their objections to the mandate, opponents say. Already there is litigation asserting that the rule violates the First Amendments guarantee to free exercise of religion.

As an employer, I have an objection to providing health insurance that covers psychiatric care, but by law I’m mandated to do so.
I object simply because if my employees were presented with a menu of choices, they would never choose psychiatric care. I object because psychiatric care is the biggest driver of increases in our premiums. Not to disparage psychiatrists, but it is the nature of psychiatry to never declare the patient “cured”, and the payouts dwarf nearly any other malady paid for by insurance, over time.
