Auto union will taunt Romney from the sky at Daytona 500
FEBRUARY 25, 2012

The United Auto Workers will taunt Mitt Romney from the sky while he attends Daytona 500 on Sunday. Plane banner: "Mitt Romney: Let Detroit Go Bankrupt."

The union says 31 of 43 cars racing tomorrow are made by one America's big three auto makers.

"Had the country taken Romney's advice, turning his back on the Auto Industry and the millions who depend on it during their darkest hour, what would have become of NASCAR?"

I clicked over and read the article, and like everything that comes out of msnbc, it was deceptive. Its purpose was to demoralize and sow discord among conservatives, therefore; Gov. Brewer’s interview didn’t disappoint me that much.

How many votes is her lukewarm statement that because she thinks Romney has the best chance against Obama, she supports him, the day before the day before the voting takes place? Aren’t there a lot o mormons that are pretty actve in the Arizona republican party right now because they see a chance to get Romney the nomination?

And how is this for spin and deceptiveness: Ouote from the article: “Brewer said she expected Super Tuesday to largely end the battle for the nomination, even if Santorum were to continue fighting”. (article opinion, not Brewer quote)

Now, what Brewer actually said: “He (Santorum) might be in it but I think it’ll be overwhelmingly decided after Super Tuesday,” she said.

So, what did she say? What did she mean exactly?: That the Super Tuesday vote would decide and end the republican primary process? or that the nomination would be decided AFTER Super Tuesday?

Worst case scenario: we still have a generally conservative tough lady Governor out there in Arizona, on our side, even if she actually (mistakenly) thinks Romney has the best shot at unseating Obama.

Exactly correct. Change the grill and the logo and a Ford becomes a Chevy becomes a Dodge becomes a Camry.

The UAW? Those dummies will be sitting on the runway in a boat yelling “Maybe we need a bigger propeller!”

The engines are essentially the same, (overhead valve/pushrod), the rest is window dressing, a vanilla wafer.

The Car of Tomorrow is another vanilla wafer, and you’re left with the marshmallow on the inside.

Racing has jumped the shark and it is simply no longer fun to watch.

NASCAR is like dumping a box of Fruit Loops into a toilet and giving it a flush. Throw in some screaming redneck to announce it, and you could sell tickets.

On the surface you are correct. They (NASCAR) are trying to do the same thing to Grand-Am in regards to it being more show with the go.

But what amazed me about the flat tappet engines is the entire lifter valley and the area above the heads are totally flooded with oil. One of the cars I did data for, and this goes for virtually all of the Ford powered TransAm cars, use this thing that I have seen 9600 RPM on the data and it wasn’t even straining. The regular roller engines cannot do that. I hear this is mainly a road racing engine package. At the end of each day the oil in those areas (~5 gal) has to be drained so it doesn’t leak past the rings and hydrolock the engine overnight.

Actually, if the auto makers would have stayed in auto manucturing instead of the retirement and healthcare business, forced by the unions, there wouldn’t have been any need for a bailout or bankruptcy. So the UAW can stick their banner .............

I used to race supermodifieds in the 80's and it too just got to be too rich for the privateer. There was a time when you could buy a used chassis, build a good alky motor and a kinsler injection and be ready to go racing for about $40K and be competitive. Now you can't even get in the gate for less than $300K.

Lying unions - Romney’s advice was the correct advice all along. GM and Chrysler DID go bankrupt, they had to. Obama bailed out the unions with taxpayer money in that, pumping money so the unions could take over, and screwed the bondholders in the process.

If anybody asks Romney about this, he should just say “When Obama gave the taxpayer’s money to UAW, I bet he didn’t tell them this is what they’d be using it for.”
