This is especially true since Romney seems to under poll; he usually does worse than predicted. I suspect that Santorum will have majorities in the Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas delegations to the GOP conventions as well.

I personally don’t have anything against Newt. That said, for weeks I’ve been saying that Santorum is our best bet to beat Obama. Sure there have been votes and/or positions in the past which Santorum wished he had back, but nothing like Romey’s (Romneycare, holding pro-abortion positions) or Newt’s (individual mandate, sitting with Pelosi on a couch for AGW).

What disturbs me is the number of folks here on FR who are so viciously deranged against Santorum. Disagree with a fellow Conservtive on their positions, but stop the malicious backbiting.

Got my Santorum yard sign Friday and it is proudly planted today!

Agreed. I suspect Romney will, best case scenario for us, continue to play whack-a-mole with Santorum and Newt all the way through to the summer.

So the smart strategy for all Freepers who want to prevent the Romney nightmare is to support whoever it is in your particular state that can deny Romney delegates. In states where only Romney and Paul are on the ballot, vote Paul.

In light of this, the idea that either Santorum or Newt should exit the race anytime soon is insane. Both guys have supporters who would have Romney as their second choice, and we don’t want that to happen.

I don’t know who is our best bet. Having watched Romney in action here in Massachusetts I am not especially impressed and I can tell you there will be many disillusioned Reagan Republicans if he is elected. I don’t know if Santorum is electable, nor am I certain of Romney. I doubt Mitt is. We never get behind who ever is nominated because we certainly don’t need another Kagan or Ginsburg on the USSC.

Romney may eek out slim wins in Michigan and Arizona only to get his ass waxed in places like Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio and Pennsylvania. That won’t leave him with commanding delegate totals.

I agree that Santorum had a bad debate. I was thinking that maybe the gang up on the other guy schtick is backfiring for Romney.

All Romney does is attack and it makes him totally unlikeable.

yep
I am hearing from MASS friends that Santorum has quite an active group in the state. So I think RS is the best bet to get delegates in VT and MA.

Polling I’ve seen shows the large bulk of the Newt vote (outside of certain freepers I guess) going to Santorum if Newt were not on the ballot, which would doom Romney to certainly lose most states.
