A lot of folks spend time focusing on the magic spectacles, the golden tablets, the new Adam and Eve, the underwear... but here’s the rub that pisses people off about the Mormons most of all.

>>>but then went on to build sturdy homes and a thriving school, develop irrigation canals and dams, raise herds of cattle, and plant vast peach and apple orchards from the punishing landscape.<<<

Nothing prompts hatred more than envy. In fact, I really don’t care what the Mormons believe as long they aren’t forcing me to do the same through coercion or gunpoint, but their general productivity is the core of Mormon hatred. Ditto the Jews in the Middle East, the racist bile spewed by black intellectuals about “the knapsack of white privilege,” or the racist bile from white liberals about Alan West and Clarence Thomas. Success may have a thousand fathers, but it also brings out the worst in those who are jealous of the success.

I wonder if the wives refer to each other as wives in law.

Every man needs a wife to be kept fully apprised of his shortcomings, but five? Talk about cruel and unusual punishment.

Prepare yourselves for at least a gazillion more Mormon/polygamy articles between now and the election should Romney become the nominee.

I don’t support Romney for political reasons. But, I don’t think it’s fair to judge him on what his ancestors did. For all we know, other candidates did terrible things. Are we going to hold everyone responsible for what their grandparents did?

He set up camp in Mexico with three wives and more than a dozen children.

Slave labor.

Stupid reporter / caption writer! (Look at the dates...)

So, would Mica Rosenberg want to be some Mormon's fifth wife? Romney's ancestors fled to Mexico not because of unfair discrimination, but because they didn't want to give up their harems and live like Americans.

What, we should criticize polygamists? Sorry, but you have to draw the line somewhere, if you have any sense of decency.

Like them or not, nobody is responsible for the behavior of their parents, grandparents or other relatives. That goes for Romney as much as any other.

This isn’t history, it is propaganda, and I do not buy that the Romney’s were ever poor, I think that as Mormon royalty they have always been well off.

This is a glowing description from the article, evidently the Mexican Dictator was superior to us evil, oppressive Americans with our regressive view of Christianity and marriage.

“”Before the Mexican Revolution, more than 4,000 Mormons were given refuge in Mexico by dictator Porfirio Diaz, buttressed by ideas of support for religious freedom espoused by Mexico’s founding father, Benito Juarez.

Mitt’s great-grandfather Miles P. Romney was one of them. He married five women over the course of his life, and joined the first wave of settlers in Mexico.

In 1867, Miles P. was told to take a second wife by Brigham Young, who took over the leadership of the Mormon church after founder Joseph Smith was killed . Miles’ first wife, Hannah Hood Hill, Mitt’s great-grandmother, was at first unhappy but accepted the decision because of her faith and ended up living happily in a polygamous family, the travel log recounts.””
