White House hopeful Mitt Romney styled himself as a Michigan-bred "car guy" whose wife drives "a couple of Cadillacs" as he tried to woo Motor City voters ahead of a key primary.
Giving what was billed as a major economic policy speech days before state Republicans choose their presidential nominee, Romney presented a plan to lower taxes and cut spending -- and insisted that he was the only candidate capable of beating Democrat Barack Obama in the November 6 presidential election.
But the speech may be remembered more for its setting and Romney's off-hand remarks rather than its substance.
Before 1,200 guests of the Detroit Economic Club, Romney took to the podium on the 30 yard line of Ford Field stadium -- home of the NFL's Detroit Lions -- surrounded by 65,000 empty seats.

Sarah would have filled the stadium. Just sayin’.
I don’t think that is what Romney said after the debacle when the mics and cameras were off behind the scenes... sometime Que up that tape with what’s his name in the bunker getting bad news from his generals ?
With his wife with a Cadillac comment, he sure is not doing a good job of getting rid of that “ CAR GUY “ image.
Looks like he couldn’t bus in his supporters fast enough.
Wonder if Drudge is going post this pic at the top of his site all weekend?? I’m guessing it will never show up there at all.
They should have given away $100 bills to the Detroit politicians, crooks, pimps, whores and welfare recipients, that would have filled the stadium. (I know there is redundancy there but that just means you need more $100 bills for the extra votes.)
Oh, yeah and provided free transportation from the city to the field house, that’s what Obama does.
Wow!
Note that Ford Field is a regular venue for the Detroit Economic Club meetings:

Oh no! Europeans are laughing at someone. If that’s your gold standard on what’s appropriate - you must be supporting Obama. All Republicans are laughable in socialist Europe.
The only issue I have with this story is that nobody from Romney’s team is noting that how many people of Romney’s level of wealth:
1) Only have 4 cars? I know people with much less wealth (and I’m not talking lawn cars) that have more cars.
2) Have American cars. Really? Not one Porche, BMW, ... With near 200M USD in assets, you’d think there’d be a family Rolls in there or something. I suspect most Patriots here don’t have as good of a record on buying American.
It seems like ages ago but I once preferred Cain but oh well. Once he left, I settled for Romney since I have low trust for Gingrich or Santorum as campaigners or as executives. There are some serious flaws in Romney’s record and in his plans going forward (and I’m in the minority minority thinking that the primary has been good for Romney’s platform and the party). That said, there are times when it’s tough to promote the view that Romney’s good enough.
So Jimbo123 - I’d like to thank most magnanimously you for your focus on trivial and cosmetic matters vs. serious intellectual arguments. I’m sure you believe you’re helping whoever your candidate is but I view you as your own inner Rombot (I think that’s what you kids call it these days). Keep on keeping on.
Romneybot begone!
Mitts “Dukakis” moment. It will stick, forever.
Quick! Send this pic to Drudge...he wouldn’t want to miss out on this...hit job, er, photo op. /s
Milt’s Dukakis Moment...spot on!
Oh, dear...that young lady in the blue dress behind Speaker Gingrich is cruising for a nasty note from one of the guys on campus...different university, same crowd.
