Last August, the federal government raided a Gibson Guitar factory and confiscated property worth at least $500,000. What had Gibson Guitars done wrong? They had imported wood from India and failed to follow every jot and tittle of the regulatory law not of the United States, but of India.
Apparently, Gibson used an inappropriate tariff code on the wood. According to Reason.tv, At issue is not whether the wood in question was endangered, but whether the wood was the correct level of thickness and finish before being exported from India. In other words, Gibsons violation had nothing to do with forest preservation.

Too bad I’m in before all you FReepers post cool Gibson pictures.....
The Empire owns and controls everything, at a whim that can sieze your property and imprison you. The Constitution is dead, we live in a world where you are not free. When I expect to be jailed for my thoughts at any moment. I used to joke how far out people were saying the country had become. :-(
Now we live on the Animal Farm in perpetual 1984.
We need a strong Constitutional President.
This story would make a GREAT satirical ad in the election. Show a lot of dramatic shots of men in dark suits, close-ups of darting eyes, a gun being unholstered. Voice over: “The Obama Administration. We’re tough on crime ... We’re tough on ... GIBSON GUITAR???”
Allow me to reprise: “...and then they came for the guitars, and we kicked their sorry faggot asses into back the dust.”
We don’t really play those kind of kiddie games on news threads here.
My ‘58 V was stolen in ‘69, when I was playing in Methyl Ethyl and The Ketones. We were an MOI-style band, and through my white Showman, also stolen, it just roared. But since that time, I have gone to single coils, Teles, Strats, and Esquires. I think they sound much better than humbuckers. There’s one humbucker in my house, that I ripped out of a ‘63 Shobud Fingertip. I’ll sell it to some sucker who has lousy ears! But,,,,,, a Goldtop with P-90s? Hmmmmmm,,,,.....

I’ve got my share of both; I think what sounds best depends on the amp/song/player’s style/accompanying instrumentation/live vs. studio/etc.
You had a ‘58 V? Wow! One of those is worth twice what my house is worth.
from my cold dead hands...I’m partial to strats, also. Had to put lace pickups on mine to fatten the sound, though. Still considering buying a Gibson just to show support to the company.
The SG. Now I know I like you. I’m a former drummer who always admired fine guitars and their sound and this baby was heavy-weight!
close, same body style but it's a 1962 Les Paul Junior...
