From the Miami Herald, a little-known detail about Sen. Marco Rubio's personal story:
When Marco was 8 years old and living in Las Vegas, the Rubio family attended a Mormon church for a few years.
It's a tidbit just released by the publisher of his memoirs. It's also a piece of the history of Rubio, a rising party star and one of the best-known Hispanic officials in the GOP, that comes as a surprise.
UPDATE: The incomparable Molly Ball points out via Twitter, "Rubio's cousin Mo Denis is Mormon D state sen. in NV." Rubio is a practicing Catholic.
His spokesman, Alex Conant, fills out the history a bit, saying, "His family attended Mormon church in Vegas starting when he was around 8 years old, and then returned to the Catholic Church when he was around 11. He received his first communion in Catholic Church in Las Vegas in 1984, and subsequently was confirmed and married in a Catholic Church."

OMG!! Is he damaged?
Thank God, he left! Many like me are saved from Mormonism.
Possible reason for Paul giving Romney a pass in every debate and playing his attack dog against any conservative that showed promise?
Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals #4 “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules
Is Paul an enemy in our midst?
Another reason to like this family, they were smart enough to leave.
OMG WHAT A TRAGEDY RUBIO WENT TO CHURCH. SOLIDERS ARE DEAD BECAUSE OF THE KORAN BURNING! WHO LEAKED THIS INFORMATION ABOUT THE KORAN BURNING? GOOD GOD I HATE OBAMA.
Does the Mormon church allow latinos? Maybe they were pretending like they were Italian.
I am LDS and do not hold it against him or his family that he left the LDS church. Everyone has the right to make their own choices. I would expect nobody should hold it against an 8-11 year old that his parents chose to attend and LDS church for those years when he was a child.
They used their own free conscience and their rights to worship as they see fit and made the choice they desired and felt was right in their heart. God bless them...they are good, decent, honest people.
He is also a strong conservative and loves this nation and its constitution.
I'd vote for Marco Rubio in a heart beat and know he would do far, far better for this nation than anyone in the Obama admin, and most in the GOP if the truth be told.
Oh No!
The implication is he is a stealth Mormon?
LOL
What a stretch.
The horror! He may end up as damaged as our contingent of mormon-obsessed posters! Arggghhhhh!
What a strange statement Jeff. It does say much about lds, however.
Rubio is trying to normalize his endorsed candidate, Bishop Romney.
At least the Mormons don’t behead you if you leave.
Oh the humanity!
There are some here on FR who, at the mere mention of the word ‘MORMON’ begin jactitating like gut-shot coyotes...
Let me see, we have a counterfeit christian in the whitehouse one whose “religion” no one was to mention during his election so it was never reported. On the other hand, we have a guy who has said he is not running in an election but the dutiful press scanning the horizon for anyone who might just some day appear as a boggy on His Excellency’s relection screen, so they have to blast him for his adolescent years in a church.
But they NEVER report that Obama attended a madrasah in Indonesia.............
**Rubio is a practicing Catholic.**
A convert from Mormonism! I know many who have become Catholic after practicing mormonism for awhile.
They didn’t like the secrets and disobeying God’s laws.
...and what on earth does that simple statement say about LDS in generl, svcw? That we do not hold it against people for making a free will choice?
You may stretch it out to be some kind of conspiratal statement about LDS folks in general if you want...but it is a rediculous stretch.
My advise would be to give it a rest. You're seeing shadows behind every corner in the broad daylight.
“At least the Mormons dont behead you if you leave”.
They used to. Read up on Bill Hickman, Porter Rockwell, Brigham Young and Blood Atonement. Check out the pre-1990 temple ceremony, where they did a throat slashing oath.
Leaving the LDS church is a sin that earns the violator eternal Outer Darkness.
