ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) - A series of political cartoons against driver's licenses to illegal immigrants is causing quite a stir. Even the governor says the newspapers cartoons go too far.
The cartoons in the Roswell Daily Record poke fun at the law that gives driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. They've run in the paper over the last year, including one from Friday that features a caricature of an immigrant whose only able to muster the word "si."
"Here you have a gentleman with a cap and a Mexican flag on it," said Javier Martinez from the Partnership for Community Action. "You have this own here crossing the border. As a person of color, they're very offensive."
Martinez called these political cartoons downright racist.

You can see for yourself if you watch the video. There is more than a grain of truth in them.

(The NM list is available on my FR homepage for anyone to use. Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Are we supposed to pretend it’s all Swedes with blond hair crossing the border?
If they weren’t true they wouldn’t care.
Illegals can kiss my hairy a-s! They have NO RIGHTS!
Now I see everything is racist unless it is against Christians and Republicans....
I thought the cartoons were pretty tame, to be honest. I was expecting the artist to have drawn Tuco Ramirez or something, but I’m not seeing anything here that I would personally consider racist.
I think it’s offensive that illegals actually can be offended and people care......YOU’RE ILLEGAL!!!
‘Republican Gov. Susana Martinez’, Martinez says it all. A sympathizer to her ‘fellow latinos’ even the highly heralded conservative Marco Rubio was originally for amnesty until he realized his base was strongly opposed. Unfortunately minorities tend to vote for their race regardless of choice on issues. (by the way I am a Cain supporter)
Illegal immigration will be one of the major factors in bringing down this once great country.
That's terrible you poor soul. Why don't you round up all your buddies that might be offended and GO THE FCK HOME. You won't have to listen to our free speech and we won't have to pay millions to feed, house, and educate you.
There are some basic unalienable rights that every human is born with.
That said, they do NOT have the same rights in the USA that an American citizen has.
I’ve never seen anyone object to a cartoon that slams conservatives - rural Americans, Southerners, married straight parents, Republicans, gun owners, stay at home moms... What’s ‘offensive’ here is a protected liberal victim group is being laughed at - and we ALL know how thin skinned liberals are...
Don’t be so quick to blame the governor and accuse her of being pro-illegals. She has attempted more than the last five Governors OF NM put together, to fight the illegal invaders and has been working VERY HARD to overturn the license (and voting) for illegals act. Unfortunately, the Democrats still hold the majority in the legislature, and all of them, Republican and democrat, live in fear of what I call the ‘mexican mafia’ in the legislature.
Governor Martinez is probably closer to being ‘an average FReeper type’ than any other governor in the nation.
Funny line from the vid: “this proves the fact that that the discourse is out of control.”
discourse
1. — communication of thought by words; talk; conversation: earnest and intelligent discourse.
2. — a formal discussion of a subject in speech or writing, as a dissertation, treatise, sermon, etc.
3. — Linguistics . any unit of connected speech or writing longer than a sentence.
Given the definition there, if it’s out-of-control then it’s neither discussion nor communication.
OK. I clicked on the link, but it was bloody useless. How the hell can you write a news article about supposedly “offensive” cartoons without showing the damned cartoons?
You have to watch the video and pause it to read them. They are really pretty tame.
The original cartoons, in the Roswell paper, are by subscription only so they can not be copied.
“All of these cartoons point to Mexican people.”
Well who do they think the illegals are, Tibetans?
Well who do they think the illegals are, Tibetans?
Of the greater than 90,000 driver's licenses issued to foreign nationals in New Mexico, an estimated 83,000 to 88,000 are believed to have been issued to illegals. Of those, the majority no doubt are Mexican nationals though there have been cases of organized trafficking of other foreign nationals from other states to NM (China, Poland and other nations).
Here is a revealing article by the AP (of all things!) giving the details of the fraud. The 83,000 to 88,000 number was given elsewhere but I can't find the citation right now.
