Top story on Drudge as I write this. And to think, some people accuse him of being pro-Romney.
Satan has his sights on the United States of America! Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared.
Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition.
This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age?
He attacks all of us and he attacks all of our institutions.
Rush Limbaugh defended him half-heartedly on his show today, noting that the media thought it was cutesy-poo when evil clown Hugo Chavez compared Bush to the devil a few years ago but conceding that Santorum will have to deal with it. Hell have to answer it. I dont know. Its just not the kind of stuff you hear a presidential candidate talk about. At the Post, John Podhoretz wonders if the best replacement for a president who sometimes seems to look down on Americans is
a president who sometimes seems to look down on Americans:

There is no such implication, though you may infer such a meaning. You don't have to believe in Satan to acknowlege that evil exists.
This whole story is 4 years old! Rick said perfectly true things in an appropriate setting (a Catholic school). This was not a Presidential debate.
In '08 Rick said this YET in '08 he campaigned for Mitt - a PRO ABORTION, PRO HOMO candidate to DECEIVE voters! And now Rick LIES about Newt for his own political worldly lust/hunger. Rick is a hypocrite and his own words/actions prove it. Lies and deception are from the pit!
Drudge could blast RS out of the water and expose him for what he is on 'what/who' he campaigned for in '08 and his lies against Newt. But Drudge can't now - he tied his own hands by living a lie himself for his own agenda! Satan has many pawns working for him.
Catholicus bumpus ad summum
Sanctimonious much? There are non-atheistic religious people who believe in God or gods, but don’t believe in Satan. There also are people who believe Satan exists but at the same time don’t believe he is attacking America. I was never taught to believe that Satan is behind every single sin that takes place. Our country is suffering from sinfulness but it’s a whole ‘nother leap to blame our problems on supernatural powers. And it’s arrogant to claim that you KNOW that is happening while everyone who disagrees with you is stupid. That’s called the sin of pride.
Why isn’t he talking about drill here drill now? Why isn’t he talking about the threat of Iran? Why isn’t he talking about employment? Why isn’t he talking about the national debt? Why isn’t he talking about 50% of American’s on subistance? Why isn’t he talking about our infrastrucure? Why isn’t he talking about government pensions? Why isn’t he talking about the intrusion of the Fed?
Why, why, why? He is nothing but a talking point. He is an empty sweater. That is why.
Frankly, I think all this will do is send more campaign dollars into the Santorum camp. The idiotic media was would call him nuts anyway. It's how they respond to things they don't understand.
As for me (Dawg), think I may take myself to church this Sunday. Maybe a Catholic one. Maybe Protestant. Maybe Both. And if this stuff is coming from the ranks of the GOP (which I suspect it is), I want nothing to do with whoever is behind it.
Personally, I think it’s really, really important to argue the case for social and cultural morality by making the argument from a strictly secular perspective. Santorum usually does a pretty good job of that. If your message is this is the right thing to do because the bible says it’s the right thing to do, you’re automatically going to fail to persuade a lot of the population. It’s fine to say I believe in this because of my religion, but I also believe it’s good for the country because of A, B, and C. Ultimately most mainstream religious beliefs and instructions exist because they have the effect of making our lives better. If you can convince people a pro-life or pro-marriage position is better for society, then you can win their support even if they don’t share your religious beliefs. Unfortunately most politicians end up “tailoring their message” to a particular group at different times, and it risks making them look insincere. I don’t think this really hurts Santorum, because most people already understood he was a devout Catholic and none of this should come as a shock to him. If he went out there preaching fire and brimstone in every campaign speech, then he would kill his candidacy, but he’s basically proven himself smart enough not to do that. Just not smart enough to not put out campaign commercials praising Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer.
I agree. Hindus have no “Satan” either but I am not offended in the least. Evil exists, however it is named. Drudge is disgusting.
You are absolutely wrong. Rick needs to keep speaking his mind. He believes in God and the devil. Whether you do or not is irreverent.
No one is doubting his belief in God. I believe he is being opportunistic in using his religion to capture a certain block of voters. That makes him no different from Obama when he plays to the black voters. Do you think for one minute that there as not been discussion in Santorum’s camp about playing it big with the Christian and evangelical voters and giving shock value to get attention?
Thanks for reminding us about the guy who “drives a sleigh and plays with elves”. Scary stuff.
As for what Rick ACTUALLY said, I agree with all of it. And he said it in an appropriate forum.
Oh, thanks for the laugh! Bob
“There are non-atheistic religious people who believe in God or gods, but dont believe in Satan”
Not many. Christians (the overwhelming majority religion in America, comprising between 60 and 76% of the population) believe in Satan because Jesus mentions him more than 20 times in the Gospels. For a Chritian to deny the existence of Satan is to make Jesus Christ a liar.
Orthodox Jews believe in Satan as well. Christians and Orthodox Jews comprise close to 80% of the American population. Your candidate, Newt Gingrich, believes in Satan and his pernicous influence in the modern world. (Read his book on John Paul II and his contribution to the destruction of Soviet communism (what that great religious zealot, Ronald Reagan called, “the evil empire.”) Reagan must have been as nutty as Santorum, huh? /sarc/

Don’t put words in my mouth or in Santorum’s. No one said Satan is behind every sin. He is, however, behind many sins. Christ himself spoke of the three enemies of mankind....the world, the flesh and the devil.

“And its arrogant to claim that you KNOW that is happening while everyone who disagrees with you is stupid. Thats called the sin of pride.”
You started off your post calling me “sanctimonious”, a not so subtle dig at Santorum whom you attack regularly. You proceed to judge me guilty of a sin and them call me sanctimonious. Do you understand the meaning of the words you use?
You affect to support Gingrich, but you are a bad advocate for him. You make fun of those who believe in the devil. I imagine Newt, a practicing and well formed Catholic, would disavow your comments in in the premises.
Your efforts to associate your self with Gingrich do him no good. He deserves better.
So easy, even a child could photoshop Santorum into that...
I definitely agree with Rick! Evil and Marxism are upon us!
No, moron, it means that there are a bunch of cowardly hypocrites on this board and in the GOP who profess to be Christians, but when attacked by the libs, scurry away and deny their faith.
Got it?
Amen, brother!
The Book of Job suggests otherwise.
