Carla Bruni-Sarkozy takes up husband Nicolas' cause
The Telegraph UK ^ | 2/20/2012 | Henry Samuel, Marseille

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy yesterday took up her husband Nicolas' call to "help me succeed for France" as she attended her first ever presidential campaign rally in Marseille.

The couple were not married when Mr Sarkozy faced the electorate last time round but on her debut there were chants of "Carla, Carla".

The first lady smiled as the cameras zoomed in on her sitting in the front row in a black jacket and grey trousers – the chief of Sarkozy's party UMP Jean-Francois Cope and Prime Minister Francois Fillon by her side.

After keeping a low profile since the birth of the first French couple's daughter Giulia, the former catwalk queen's appearance yesterday was part of a carefully choreographed return to the public stage as a new look young mother and doting spouse.

The supermodel-turned pop singer was credited with turning her husband from TV-loving philistine into a culture vulture who bores guests on art-house films and War and Peace. Mr Sarkozy's marriage to Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz collapsed within months of moving into the Elysee Palace in 2007 and Mr Sarkozy married again in 2008.

But with aides convinced the key to Mr Sarkozy's re-election is as a back-to-basics man of the people, his spouse is changing her previously artistic tastes.

For the past week she has appeared in an apparently "stolen" video giving her husband an awkward kiss and adjusting his Legion of Honour medal and as he prepares to announce his candidacy on prime-time TV.

"I'll accompany my husband when he needs me... in symbolic moments, in rallies" "I support him 100 per cent" "He is the best able to keep the country on course... and has done everything well."

I think she'd probably look beautiful and classy in anything she chose to wear. She seems to have a really great sense of fashion and style -- she was probably born that way. I have a daughter who, since she was old enough to dress herself, always chose the coolest coordinated outfits. I don't think she got that from me though! LOL

Anyway, Carla really is a beautiful woman and represents her country well. I wish we were as fortunate. Mrs. Obama really should hire a better stylist. Too often her outfits are in no way flattering to her. I know if I were her that'd probably be the FIRST thing I would've done quite some time ago if I had her money and especially if I had her schedule.

IMHO, a first-rate stylist an absolute necessity for a First Lady unless she has that natural (or learned) sense of flattering style.

Thanks for the ping, Cincinna. :)

She is a real, and natural, beauty...inside and out.

I guess she’s got a few years left before Sarkozy replaces her with someone still younger.

You are so right about a professional stylist. A must for anyone in a high profile position like First Lady (Moochelle-Antoinette is no lady, but you know what I mean).
Carla is a natural. Maybe because she has been in the fashion world for so long, but also because she is a well brought up woman who knows what is appropriate and what is not. She is rich in her own right, not nouveau riche, and doesn’t need flashy trashy clothes and accessories to show off.
Does your daughter want to pursue a career in the fashion or design field? Sounds like it would be a really good fit.
