Nationally, gas prices are $3.53 a gallon, up 25 cents since Jan. 1, and likely headed to $4.25 a gallon by late April. Republicans have demanded more oil production at home, as well as building the Keystone XL pipeline across the middle of the U.S. to allow oil from Canada to reach Texas refineries.
Obama rejected the plan, but one of his spokesmen, Robert Gibbs, said the president is looking to increase domestic energy production.
"Just on Friday, the Department of Interior issued permits that will expand our exploration in the Arctic. The president has increased our fuel efficiency and energy efficiency standards so we do use less energy, which will help drive down the price," Gibbs said. "Our domestic oil production is at an eight-year high, and our use of foreign oil is at a 16-year low. So we're making progress."
Okay so they issued some permits...for exploration. It takes years of "exploration" before energy resources can even be tapped and for production to begin in order to develop domestic energy sources. Obama was given domestic energy production and job growth on a silver platter with Keystone and he rejected it with full force. And just for the record, "fuel efficiency and energy efficiency standards," like the Obama administration's push of the Chevy Volt, aren't doing anything to drive down energy costs, in fact, the Volt push alone is costing taxpayers $250,000 per vehicle sold.
So, what can you do about this? Keep a sticky note pad and a sharpie in your car. Ultimately, pain at the pump will result in less votes for Obama in November.
$3.59 here on the NW Gulf Coast of Florida......
My local radio station just reported that Hillary is in Mexico to set new guidelines to allow Mexico to drill for oil in the Gulf.
by tilting at windmills and solar panels..............
***Republicans have demanded...and Obama rejected...***
0 is a dictator because he’s ALLOWED to be. C’mon Congress - grow a pair! Do your job for once.
Why don’t you bypass the Executive Office like 0 bypasses the Congress all the time?
Build one refinery and it could be online in a year.
Build the Keystone and we can cut our fuel needs by ... I dunno .. a whole lot.
More importantly, we tell all muzzies, zero especially included ... we don't need you anymore.
This is just one of the examples of why I’ve lost hope for America. This is in the average person’s face, you can’t ignore it, you can’t avoid it.
When gas got to $2.50/gal under Bush, I heard constant howls about Bush’s oil buddies robbing us, and people wondering how much Cheney was making off the high gas prices. The MSM led the charge, but it didn’t take much, people were quite unhappy.
Now, gas could easily be $5/gallon by summer. Obama’s energy secretary said $5/gallon was a good price to help green alternatives become viable. Not a freakin’ peep! Every now and then someone says something about the gas prices as if it was like the weather... a fact of life beyond anyone’s control.
Americans are morons, they’re asking for 4 more years of Obama, and they’re going to get what they deserve. It’s a darn shame I’m going down the tubes with the morons.
Does anyone need anything explained to them again? Pay some attention while you pay for everything else in a fascist utopia.
When Sarah was pushing “Drill Here, Drill Now” all we heard from the commies nonstop for a year was that “it’ll take years for new production to come on line, so there’s no point doing any exploration.” They shut down exploration and production in the Gulf; stopped Keystone XL; have erected every possible barrier to domestic production.
Now Gibbs says the “solution” is for all us to go out and purchase brand new micro econoboxes to fix the supply/demand problem. Their solution to the problem is for all of us to curtail our lifestyles and not travel further than 50 miles from our homes during our entire lifetimes.
Besides, where are we going to get the money to purchase a new micro econobox? Jobs are gone, workforce has dwindled, salaries are down, inflation is soaring, taxes are going through the roof.
Throw the commie bastards out ASAP.
Expand exploration? Everywhere an American owned company finds it they’re not allowed to drill. Anywhere South America, China, Cuba or any other Communist country finds it “we’ll be your best customers”!
Sorry Kaslin, but FUBO!
You know as well as I do that the “green energy” movement is nothing but a “no energy” agenda.
Meanwhile, the “elite” will continue to fly their jets and drive their cars.
I paid $4.26 on Sunday for regular.
$3.67 in Montgomery County, MD...a bit less in Northern VA.
“Their solution to the problem is for all of us to curtail our lifestyles and not travel further than 50 miles from our homes during our entire lifetimes”
Well, you WOULD be easier to control that way, would you not?
Just sayin’...
We don’t need a new refinery, we have refinery capacity to spare.
We need to put more domestic oil through our refineries and less oil from OPEC.
There is no way to build a new refinery in a year. It takes over a year from the original decision just to reach enough engineering and design to order the equipment based upon what oil versus economic balance of the products desired.
Some of that equipment will take a year before it can show up for installation. Construction alone would take a year past that point.
If it is a completely new refinery, it takes new pipeline to bring in crude oil and natural gas. New pipelines would also be needed to deliver products. Major electrical transmission lines are also required.
of course he is and the left is using every lame excuse the can not to drill and make us dependent on foreign oil
I think making us dependent on foreign oil is one of the lesser agenda items.
The primary agenda item, in the big picture, is to disallow people the availability of cheap energy.
