Report: Millions of jobless file for disability when unemployment benefits run out (Obama's Fault)
Fox News ^ | 2/19/2012 | fox news

Being unemployed for too long reportedly is driving people mad and costing taxpayers billions of dollars in mental illness and other disability claims.

The New York Post reported Sunday that as unemployment checks run out, many jobless are trying to gain government benefits by declaring themselves unhealthy.

More than 10.5 million people -- about 5.3 percent of the population aged 25 and 64 -- received disability checks in January from the federal government, the Post wrote, a 18 percent jump from before the recession.

Among those claiming disability, 43 percent are asking for benefits because of mental illness, the Post wrote. A growing number of those people are older, former white-collar workers.

congrats! My hubby’s still temping, but they said they will hire him and have given him some raises. It’s the steadiest income we’ve had in 2+ years...he was unemployed that long and never stopped looking. He had to temp because he was losing his mind not working and even those jobs were hard to come by here...took him 3 months just to get a temp job.

So, we know how you feel!! Good luck!!

You need to hire a lawyer. The law is they can only collect if you win. Then it’s 25% of the back pay. And don’t hire one of those shysters that advertises on T.V. Hire a local guy who does nothing but SS.

Meanwhile, thousands of degreed, local bureaucrats receive high incomes for doing nothing in the absence of new construction for decades.

Believe it or not, many Americans have stashed $100k, $200k and more. They never knew they were saving the money but the government takes a little out of your paycheck over the years and it is actually earmarked as your private account.

You are paying for this money in the hopes you never have to use but there may be a day and one should absolutely file a claim.

When you die you will not be allowed to pass on this cash to your heirs.

When you retire you will not be given any of the money as part of your retirement.

The government keeps 96% of all monies paid into SDI.

It’s your money and you have a right to it to support you while you are injured and to have the costs of your surgery paid for and it just so happens you are self funding it.

I have no problem with anyone filing and getting back at least some of their money.

You didn’t claim to be one of Eric’s people or have a relative working on the DNC? Foolish girl, how could you reasonably expect to qualify?

Neither do I; however, I do if it is a fake or non-existent disability.

The people who voted for Obama were already crazy, and the rest of us are being driven crazy. The whole country is turning into a nuthouse.

This sort of thing really pisses me off, because there are people who need and deserve disability. I've mentioned my cousin here before. Although he was always introverted and just seemed a bit "odd" growing up, he graduated college with a BA in business administration. He worked for a major financial corporation for around 10 years before he was let go for "inappropriate actions." It was only then that he was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic. Over the years he only got worse... He began taking what ever jobs he could get... He went from working at a pharmacy as a clerk and stocker, to losing that job, and working as a sacker at a grocery store. Eventually he lost that job as well. He lived at home with his mother, and became her primary care giver when she began to suffer from dementia, and that REALLY damaged him emotionally, because she became very abusive towards him.

He is simply incapable of holding anything but the most menial job, and it would have to be arranged by a mental health agency, because no company would ever hire him.

It took him more than 3 years and multiple appeals to finally be certified for disability. This guy worked and payed into the system since he got his first part time job at 13 years of age. He payed into the system until he lost his last job about 8 years ago. He wants to work, but he can barely hold a conversation with some who's not a family member.

It's a shame that the system seems to be rigged against the people who really need the help that system was originally supposed to provide.

Mark

Not a problem though because are plenty of, ah, oxycontin vendors who will be happy to relieve you of some of your disability check in return for the goodies.

Oxycontin, pursued illegitimately is its own punishment: no one messes with the Opiate Family and gets out without battle scars.

A crash is exactly what Obama and the Dems want as they will stridently fight for socialism or even communism. Do you really think the pantywaists in the GOP will make an impassioned defense of the free market? Be careful what you wish for, as the saying goes.

“Great idea. Because we Constitutional conservatives are routinely labeled as nuts, we’ll automatically qualify for fed handouts without going through that unemployment process.”

You go, girl. I wonder if I qualify in Israel. Settlers are supposedly all nuts, too. As an American Citizen, I demand my right to a crazy check, and an equivalent benefit from the Israeli government.

What a sad story. I hope your cousin is able to get the help he needs.

The system is definitely rigged against those it was intended to help.

shop doctors

just like you shop for bargains and clip coupons

not saying its ethical

but it is effective

i hired a laborer. paid legal. taxes and all. he lived with a “disabled” woman. she had a “psych” card. age 23.
permanent disability. unable to work. she got an apartment on “section 8,” food payments, medical benefits, the works. they now have 2 children. big screen TV (60”) cellphones, video game modules, etc. How is this possible? the social worker makes an appointment to visit. my laborer isn’t there. then, he is, when the social worker is gone. why?

everybody involved knows how this works and why. the government is transferring wealth. circulating money. stimulating the economy. promoting domestic tranquility. with all the gifts to the power elites, why not give some to the unfortunates? they vote too.

guess who they will vote for.

“The real prize is the “crazy check” for mental disability because you don’t have to keep pretending your back is hurt.”

I don’t believe the “crazy check” won’t haunt you down the road in obtaining a gun permit or during a custody battle; I’d be really careful with that one.

Disability fraud came into fashion soon after the Welfare Reform of 1996 (and it spikes during layoffs); for people determined not to work, it just isn’t going to happen.

Walking into a firm and asking to ‘intern’ or work for free and be trained anew to get the new skills needed to get back on one’s feet even while pulling Unempl. benefits is not hard.

Sitting at home blubbering in panic - UNACCEPTABLE.

Vast majority of these people are liars, fools and malingers.

We absolutely will have a total collapse, what could possibly prevent it? Long ago I read Carlos Castenada’s strange book and I recall “Don Juan” saying that by the time a man realizes that he is on the wrong path that path is ready to kill him. Think about it, it is true and the same goes for nations.

“The government keeps 96% of all monies paid into SDI.”

In the past three years, the Federal Disability Trust Fund has paid out more than it has taken in; figures are in billions of $ from the SSA website

year in out

2009 109.6 118.1
2010 105.5 126.3
2011 106.2 131.5
