Rick Santorum had a Boise crowd in his hands Tuesday, affirming his faith, ripping his GOP opponents and President Obama, and setting high stakes.
We have a duty to leave this country better than we found it, Santorum said. I believe that if we are unsuccessful in this election that we will have failed in that duty and it will have horrendous consequences. ... It will be the end of the great experiment in the order of liberty and freedom.
Santorum filled the 1,300-seat Capital High School auditorium, and more than 1,000 more listened in the gym. The crowd was a big part of the event booing U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., calling Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg traitor! and reminding Santorum that American revolutionaries had more than muskets.
And God! said a voice from the crowd, prompting one of a dozen standing ovations during Santorums 75 minutes on stage.
Well, replied Santorum, They believed. They believed and they went out and did extraordinary things.
Santorum said Obama is following the FDR playbook, determined to succor public dependency on government.
We are reaching a tipping point, folks, when those who pay are the minority and those who receive are the majority. Freedom in an election process is not something people will care about. Theyll care about whether they get their piece.
Wearing his signature sweater vest, jeans and worn cowboy boots, Santorum waved a copy of the Constitution, which he called the operators manual of America.
But he said many Americans neglect another founding document the Declaration of Independence.
Santorum began reciting, We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their but paused for the crowd to shout Creator! before continuing, with certain unalienable rights.
That is who we are, thats where our rights come from, he said, eliciting Bless the Lord! from the audience.
Santorum said the Obama administration believes it has the right to force the Catholic Church to hire women priests. Theyre going to fight because they believe their secular values should be imposed on people of faith.
He added, Dont you see how they see you? How they look down their nose at the average Americans. These elite snobs!
Santorum said hes happy to be called the social conservative in the race but that he talks about all the issues.
Without naming them, Santorum dug at Mitt Romney for his Massachusetts top-down government health plan and Newt Gingrich for his former belief in human-caused global climate change.
He noted his longtime call of alarm about the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, saying the Cold War arms race that checked the Soviet Union wont work with the mullahs.
Mutually assured destruction worked. Why? Because they didnt want to die. Because when atheists die, thats it. Or, maybe better stated, they think thats it.
But in Iran, They believe these end of times (are) a good thing for them, thats the time they will conquer the world and rule it for Allah. ... Bringing about Armageddon for them is not a deterrent. It is an inducement.
During a 28-minute question-and-answer session with the audience, Santorum said he would separate the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals from Idaho and other Western states, leaving it to cover only California. He also said he would sell millions of acres of federal lands.
His first questioner didnt have a question at all. She told Santorum, I love you with all my heart. Ive been praying for you since the first time I laid eyes on you. Another invited him back after he becomes president.
If this is the reception Im gonna get, he said. Ill definitely come back.

This is a serious issue, stop tainting it with talking about Santorum’s endowment.
If Santorum supports states rights as he asserts, I should think he would want those federal lands returned to the states and that the states would decide how to deal with THEIR land.

But last I checked it took an act of Congress to change them...or even to put a judge on one of them.
Do you support Newt? If so, he has talked about abolishing the 9th Circuit which can only be done constitutionally by Congress. Of course, I’m sure both Rick and Newt realize they cannot unilaterally abolish courts but they would both support Congressional action doing just that.

He also says this:
For example, if every major candidate running for President in 2012 were to pledge to join the effort to challenge judicial supremacy, then it would send an unmistakable signal to the judicial branch that it had better consider its rulings carefully lest it subject itself to severe erosion in its public support.
So I think it is probably good that Santorum is also making a ruckus about the courts.
He went on to bash the Endangered Species Act, cringing as he talked about how it hurts business and has hindered logging in an area in Pennsylvania: We have the Endangered Species Act, which has prevented us from timbering all sorts of acreage there. Its bankrupted the school district and the like because of the governments inability to allow for us to care for our resources. A forest in my opinion is like a garden and youve got to care for it. If you dont care for it, you leave it to nature and nature will do what it does: boom and bust.
Newt Gingrich is not some lackey who woke up and decided he wanted to be President. Hes been doing serious work his entire life. This experience Newt has could turn our country around for the better if he became President. Newt is the most experienced surgeon who has the know-how to fix our sick country. Its up to his supporters now to try to educate America why we feel this way. I believe if voters are given the correct info about Newt they will not walk, but literally run to him given the other 3 choices in this campaign!
You are great with words, Marguerite, and thoughtful approaches, and right now, for the grassroots involved in Newts campaign, and the field staff, the campaign has taken quite a few hits the last couple of weeks. Newt is standing his ground, but little by little, people are getting discouraged and starting to fall short in their involvement and commitments. It is just a momentary stall, and we can pull out of it...
There were 150,000 calls from the phone banks made into SC which propelled Newt to victory... with a 22% rise in participation. We need to duplicate that, and if you could try to motivate and encourage people in your own unique way, in your universe, and if everyone could do that, we could take Newt’s campaign up a notch.
What we can do is make phone calls and give money, and get involved in the states on the schedule for February. There was an rsvp teleconference tonight with Newt, and though he sounded tired, he said he is going to try and do something on his own, nationally, with the debate time that has been cancelled.. Only all that takes money... money money.

There’s a long way to Tampa Convention, and the so-called “front runner” has still NINE times less pledged delegates than Newt.
I still don’t like that. Approximately eighty six percent of Nevada is owned by the federal gov’t. Should the federal gov’t be able to sell off 86% of a state? I don’t think so.
