Rick Santorums tax returns suggest his support for American manufacturing hasnt always extended to his own automobile purchases. His 2008 return shows that Mr. Santorum and his wife, Karen, listed a German car an Audi A6 among their business equipment. The car was placed in service on April 1, 2008, and was driven 11,850 miles that year, more than 6,000 of them for business purposes.
His personal business returns for 2009 and 2010 show that he still had a vehicle that was placed in service on April 1, 2008, suggesting that he still owned the Audi.

Hey, it’s just an Audi afterall. Considering the depreciation the POS has already undergone, we should feel sorry for him.
“When an American auto company makes an all wheel drive luxury sedan that compares with the Audi A6, maybe Rick will buy one. And me too, for that matter.”
My A6 is a quattro, but I think Rick’s is the base fwd model, based on the reported price.
The closest American brands include a Cadillac CTS awd, and a Taurus awd. Both pretty good, but cost almost as much as the Audi.
Audi outsells BMW and Mercedes in Germany, which is home to these sophisticated vehicles.
Like my Audi a lot, but my next car will be for better mileage and lower price.
Maybe we’ll get a good small displacement diesel or two made in the USA, if they hope to compete better.
The Volt is the answer to the question nobody was asking.
