A Colorado high school student quit the school choir after an Islamic song containing the lyric "there is no other truth except Allah" made it into the repertoire.
James Harper, a senior at Grand Junction High School in Grand Junction, put his objection to singing "Zikr," a song written by Indian composer A.R. Rahman, in an email to Mesa County School District 51 officials. When the school stood by choir director Marcia Wieland's selection, Harper quit.
"I dont want to come across as a bigot or a racist, but I really dont feel it is appropriate for students in a public high school to be singing an Islamic worship song, Harper told KREX-TV. "This is worshipping another God, and even worshipping another prophet ... I think there would be a lot of outrage if we made a Muslim choir say Jesus Christ is the only truth."
But district spokesman Jeff Kirtland defended the decision to include the song.
"Choral music is often devoted to religious themes. ... This is not a case where the school is endorsing or promoting any particular religion or other non-educational agenda. The song was chosen because its rhythms and other qualities would provide an opportunity to exhibit the musical talent and skills of the group in competition, not because of its religious message or lyrics," Kirtland told FoxNews.com in an email while noting that the choir "is a voluntary, after-school activity."
"Students are not required to participate, and receive no academic credit for doing so," he said.
At an upcoming concert, the choir is scheduled to sing an Irish folk song and an Christian song titled "Prayer of the Children," in addition to the song by Rahman.
"The teacher consulted with students and asked each of them to review an online performance of the...

I personally would go ahead and sing the song but with substantially altered lyrics when we got to the allah part.
ISLAM isnt a race. I believe that those that subscribe to that religion are human. So - how can he be a racist...unless Moslems come from another planet???
Good for him - the incursion of Islam must be pointed out. I wonder how many other foreign music compositions they performed before this one???
Except at Christmas time! What BS!
I wonder where the school fathers discovered this "Islamic Music."

Good point. Maybe that part could be left out unless it’s throughout the piece.
You took my kisses and you took my love,
(snapping fingers)
You taught me how to care;
Am I to be just the remnant of a one-sided love affair?
Allah you took, I gladly gave,
There’s nothing left for me to save.
Allah me, why not take Allah me,
(Yeah Baby)
Can’t you see, I’m no good without you.
Take my lips I want to lose them,
Take my arms I’ll never use them,
Your good bye left me with eyes that cry,
How can I go on dear without you.
(Go Daddy-O)
You took the part that once was my heart,
So why not take Allah me.
Doo be doo be do
Scooby dooby do
To or not to be
(Big Finish)
Allahu ... Foo Barrrrrrr
You left out the take mylegs part:

Oh, I was thinking of substituting something rude but didn’t want to put that in your thread.
Ha, ha. Well if they sing it in a weird way or backward no one would notice.
I heard it first here! And we live fifteen min.from G.J.High.
I intend to send letters out. This High school has a pretty good school newspaper-seems college level on some of their stuff. But I agree with the student.I can’t imagine any public school in America endorsing/promoting Islam as would be the case if/when this song is required for presentation.
How is this legal?
Ohhhh, boy......if only.
Does the choir sing Handel’s Alleluia during Christmastime?
If a Jewish person in the chorus wanted to sit out a Christmas carol because he didn’t believe what it was going to ask him to sing, nobody would complain about that. Really, why can’t this fellow sit this sicker “Zikr” out without repercussions?
Good for this student...they would never allow a song with Jesus name in it....
Rahman is a Muslim. I didn’t read the story closely, but I suspect they’ve glossed over that fact and misled with the “Indian” appellation so that one might assume that he’s Hindu.
Answering you on this thread. The other was locked as a duplicate. It’s not your computer.
Just don’t allow Islam to be mixed with any other religion because it is not similar with any other main stream religions. Inch by inch by inch by inch. Stop this is it’s tracks - NOW!
