Perhaps people are not aware that pro-life principles were put forth by the Apostles in the Didache. The Catholic Church has long stood against abortion.

An empty line there it would seem.

“Catholic social ministry begins and ends with Jesus Christ,” he said. “If it doesn’t, it isn’t Catholic.”

You quit your church and I being catholic quit mine. It was a hard thing to do, but back in the early 70's I saw things that were hypocritical, by the late 70's I was out. Tried again during the 80's with catholic bible studies going on in the parish we lived it....asking the priest a few simple questions and got the same crap that caused me to stop going to mass earlier....They haven't learned (the leaders and dribble down to the priests) anything. Have no desire to ever go back, and when I say it was hard leaving, it took a couple of years of conflicting emotions to finally make the break.

I am glad someone smarter than I finally put it into words.

I don't think that many people realize that even the apostles who wrote the Didache were prolife!

The Kennedy Catholics did generations ago. It is my conviction that Ted Kennedy could not die without seeing nationalized healthcare passed. Who knows why -- perhaps to assuage one very guilty conscience. He delivered the Catholic vote to Obama in exchange for it.

Been saying it for years. I'm glad all the intellectuals and thinkers are starting to unravel it.

Rahe's article is superb and a must-read. The key observation is that once you conflate socialist redistribution with charity you've strayed from the moral path and the Church has been walking down this dark road since the 1930s.

Rahe sees hope that this may prompt a rethink of the whole "social justice" agenda that the American Church has heretofore wholeheartedly supported. We shall see.

“They hushed everything up, sent the priests off for psychological counseling, and reassigned them to other parishes or even dioceses – where they continued to prey on young boys.

This is the first time I’ve ever disagreed with Rush. The erring priests were sent off to psychiatrists who said they could be cured, and then sent them back as cured. Several years later, the psychiatrists announced that there WAS NO CURE. Blame the psychiatrists, not the Church.

It was back in the early 70's (I think) that the catholic university in Detroit has a non-catholic professor that spoke out strongly against abortion, it made the papers in Detroit and the head of the university(a priest) did not come to the mans defense, he was silent about the abortion issue and I do believe finally the professor was either asked to leave or left because of the pressure....

Where the rubber hit the road, the catholic leaders were silent....(I am not talking about the people in the pews). There is a great difference between what they write and how they act. This article read by Rush is right on. I will not try to defend the indefensible.

There is much to admire about catholic teaching, but its rarely practiced, even by some that sit in the pews...

I was part of the Synod of the 60's (or maybe the early 70's) please forgive me not remembering the year, at 73 my memory is not what it use to be and my choice was leader for was the* missions*....we had many meeting and I wrote up our conclusions but when it came time for the leaders to meet with the bishops in downtown Detroit, I was sick and could not make that last meeting our conclusions was given to another one of the area's to take to the final meeting....

Silent retreats were twice a year at the Dominican mother house in Oxford Michigan.

The last one I went to when the priest was giving his homily in the evening I asked a simple question when he started speaking of birth control and confession.

I asked: Is it the belief that when one goes to confession, one is confessing to the Lord (which I knew and believed) he said Yes.

I then asked....If one confesses to using birth control and ask the priest why they made a person choose between God and husband. And in confession the priest said......you do what is good for your marriage it is also a sacrament, is that as Jesus talking to us...he said yes..

There was a priest at a near by church that gave permission for using birth control during confession......is he speaking as the Lord to us......the poor priest giving the homily had no answer. The church was Saint Lawrence in Utica...

I remained a devote catholic for several more years, working in the parish, belonging to the altar society, on a Saturday had movie day for the children of the parish, rented the equipment and got the movie. The proceeds going to a mission...Women who had family or friends (priest or nun) that was a missionary put their name in a box and at the womens meeting one evening I chose one of the women to reach in and pick out a name....the money we raised went to Kerela (wrong spelling) India. The letters I received from them priest and nuns went into the archives of the church, even some pictures the nuns sent of hippo in a near by river....(don't ask me how I remember the picture, but the women thought they were great)

I found out early what the Bishops fund was going for simply by reading it in the parish paper....90% went to liberal causes and most not even catholic or christian causes...Hubby and I had an argument about how much to give to the once a year collection...I wanted zero, he wanted 100 dollars. It was quite a discussion, we compromised on 5 dollars...

This took quite a while to compose, sorry if it sounds disconnected at places...not easy to write...

That article @ Richochet is some heavy reading.

Where there's a shell, there's a way.

25 years ago, we had Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope.
Today we have Obama, no cash, and no hope!

If you can't appreciate the pure beauty of the violin after hearing this, something's wrong with your ears.

Or you can get raw with these strings.

How about this gamechanger from America's Got Talent (which they SHOULD have won).

And finally, this, dedicated to the one and only rdb2, whose eyes are growing dim.

Either way, the violin is sweet yet LETHAL.

Do it!

The Bishops, and all others who treasure the rights of conscience and other Creator-endowed rights never delegated by the Constitution to government, must keep their focus on the real violation here. It is not about Catholics or women's health or contraception.

It's not even limited to the principle of religious liberty or freedom of speech.

It is about an unconstitutional assumption of power over rights which "the People" withheld from the purview of the government they structured through their Constitution. If this arrogation of power to the Executive is allowed to stand in this case, then all of "the People's" rights are at risk.

Inasmuch as their Constitution allowed no power to infringe on any specified right in the First Amendment, then the person who assumes such a power also does not possess a power to "compromise," or "accomodate."

May I suggest that readers of this thread read Leonard Read's "Anything That's Peaceful," which can be read online, and share this wonderful and easy-to-read book with as many people as you can. The book itself can be ordered from FEE.

Not only does Read provide insight into the ideas of liberty versus those of tyranny (as in socialism), but his Chapter 5, entitled, "How Socialism Harms the Individual" is especially enlightening for any who may not see what is happening in America in its proper context, as pertains to the individuals involved.

In Chapter 5, under the heading "The Authoritarian," he begins by stating, "Of the threee classifications of persons involved in social leveling by compulsion, the authoritarian--the one who administers the taking and the giving--has been too little diagnosed." When you read it, you will see the nature of the man before us today. This section of Chapter 5 paints a portrait most Americans will recognize.

An extra bonus of this wonderful book is that it contains Read's famous "I, Pencil." Copies should be placed in every school library and in every home school setting.

While my husband was having open heart surgery at a local Catholic hospital, a retired nun came and sat with me. She told me that the priests of the Catholic church were no longer men of God, that they had turned the Catholic Church into a business. She said the priests no longer pray.

She gave the example of a retreat that she had attended in Vancouver, BC. It included Catholic priests and nuns from all over North America. She said that they had classes and discussion topics and services every day, but they were very poorly attended because all the priests wanted to do was play golf.

That reminded me of my husband’s grandfather, who was in the candle business. He had only one customer, the Arch Diocese of Philadelphia. He never worked a day in life, even through the depression. All he did was play golf with priests, every single day.
