The comprehensive answer is, sadly: yes.
Many people are now learning that it is an utter fiction that we can destroy economic liberty and still maintain civil and religious liberty. A socialist state must prohibit capitalist acts between consenting adults, as the saying goes. Now people are also beginning to see that a socialist state must compel non-capitalist acts between non-consenting adults.
Not just you. The UMC and many other “mainstream” so-called Christian denominations are dying....and not slowly.
Meanwhile, evangelical, non-denominational Christianity is skyrocketing.
There is NO wondering why.
Christianity in general has done this. You can’t sell your soul and hope to keep your conscience.
“highbrow conservatives” - formerly known as “Country Club conservatives” ... Romney, Coulter, et. al.
So what do you think he's gonna do at election time. I say fraud like you have never seen & just like this POS birth certificate nobody will do more than bitch for a day or so & back to business as usual. We live in a banana republic.
while I attended Catholic churches, the Monsignor was really pushing “tolerance” for those among us that live in the shadows aka illegals.
He pressed us to volunteer and help them with their children while they worked and to make food and bring it to them. I asked him, what gives and he kept quoting scripture while I kept quoting Maryland law. Same in Virginia but the new guy spoke very openly about working against the unjust laws and pushing for more government assistance and supporting candidates that believed in that. Well, you got it.
The leadership has been in bed with leftists for a few generations and now they’re surprised when they turn on them. The US Catholic leadership is the very definition of useful idiots. They tried to replace the more difficult journeys of life, which we were taught strengthened the relationship with God, with free government stuff but forgot something we learned in religious instruction classes...
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”
Well Padre, lie with dogs and you get fleas.
Much of this is true as far as it goes. It fails to mention, however, that no single bishop or archbiship or cardinal—regardless of USCCB title—has the power to speak ex cathedra, to issue fiats as to what the Church believes or must teach. It’s only when they speak in communion with the pope that their opinions on faith and morals have real weight. New York’s archbishops/cardinals over the years—Hayes, Spellman, Cook, O’Connor, Egan—seemed to have belonged to a religion completely different from what the Chicago/Boston/LA leaders were touting. If Dolan hangs tough, he’ll be the sixth consecutive Conservative New York church leader since the 20s. None of this portion of the Catholic hierarchy ever preached “the seamless garment” line. There is most definitely a hierarchy of evil, and God help the bishop who equates redistribution of wealth or repeal of the death-penalty, for that matter, with abortion justification.
0bama would have never been elected had he been vetted by the SRM
Catholic Charities have been listed as a partner on the Democratic Socialists of America website for years.
And one other point: WFB never, NEVER, missed the distinction between what a bishop recommended or touted and what the Pope issued from the Chair of Peter. I’m afraid Mr. Rahe, highbrow though he be, isn’t quite up to Buckley’s brow.
While it is true you cannot neglect the other charities mentioned, actively and vigorously defending life must take precedence. Also, using the agent of government socialism is straight from the devil.
I feel like this too. My wife is Methodist and I agreed to raise our children Methodist so we attend the UMC whenever we were stationed. Recently, I strongly objected to the use of the term “social justice” in a sermon a year back and the Pastor kinda walked it back the next week.
The UMC leadership has been in a very strange place. If you read their Book of Resolutions, it sounds like an anti Republican, anti Capitalist screed. I don’t like what I’ve hearing over the past few years..

You are quite right, it indeed cuts across all denominations; and it has been especially damaging to those denominations who fail to distinguish clearly and well between the kingdom of God’s left hand (civil government, and the proper use of its primary God-given instrument, the sword/law - Romans 13:4; Matthew 22:17-21) and the kingdom of His right hand (the church, and the proper use of its primary God-given instrument, the keys/gospel - Matthew 16:19; 18:18-20; John 20:21-23). Because Catholicism has failed to distinguish clearly between these two manners of God’s rule over mankind, it has been particularly hard hit.
It seems to me the first paragraph could have been posted instead of stopping at the first sentence
