Someone said early in the thread that Romney had bussed more people in to the event. I think that’s the most accurate explanation of what happened. CPAC is open to anyone who is willing to pay the entry fee and the cost of getting to the event. There are many true believing conservatives willing to shell out their own money to attend, but it also attracts those establishment types with deep pockets who want to be seen and young people who are subsidized to attend. Romney would have dominated these two latter groups. Remember, groups like National Review until recently would have been considered rock solid conservative, so the definition of “conservative” is really getting blurred.

Wasn’t there some credible questions raised about CPAC last election—and now to have CPAC be the darling conservative caucus -according to the media—methinks the inquisition was right and the change at CPAC only surface.I still cannot believe Romney is a “conservative” any more than I believe he has repented from his gay rights Romney— or his ObamaCare Model Romney—or any of his other stupid progressive Romney skeletons—never knew anybody who changed their skeleton -but some who changed the covering.

To win, you pay off the voters. Simple as that.

I've been following CPAC since the late 1990's and it's been like that every year. One would think this could have been remedied by now.

I think the more interesting number is that Santorum got 31% to Gingrich’s 15%. Neither of these likely had the money to pad the vote, and the results show, in spite of the acclaim that some in here have given Gingrich’s speech, that the conservatives are starting to rally around Santorum.

The fact that Paul wins this thing some years is plenty of indication that it’s a vote that can be bought by bussing in supporters and paying their way for a weekend, nice work if you can get it.

But I doubt either Santorum or Gingrich had the resources to do so. Certainly Santorum didn’t as he was operating on a shoestring until the middle of the last week.

Michigan is going to be very interesting if Gingrich continues to fade, as I expect he will, and the conservative vote starts to consolidate around one candidate.

One of my Facebook friends is tweeting from CPAC. She said that they brought in busloads of college students for the straw poll, which hasn’t been unusual for any of these polls, but she said this time they were instructed to vote for Romney instead of Ron Paul.

BYU students...the Mo9rmon university in Salt lake City

BYU students went to South Carolina too to help Romneys campaign...

apparantly they were typically rude and annoying to the locals...

Entitlement and superiority doncha know...

CPAC was held in a Mormon hotel...

I wonder just how the online straw poll voting was controlled...

internally in the hotel owned by Willard Marriott the guy who Willard Mitt Romney is named for...

or independantly off the site..

Thanks to busloads of young Romney supporters brought in just long enough to vote.

Romney and Paul are the same, they tried to show fake poll results by overwhelming straw polls with people they bring in by buses.

In reality, the second place finisher, Rick Santorum, actually won the CPAC poll....

There's a lot of truth to that.

I just hope Scott Brown stays in Massachusetts, where he can do a lot of good. While a right-wing radical by New England standards, he may not look so good outside the bluest of blue states. I'd hate to see him vilified outside Massachusetts for voting the way his constituents want.

ROMNEY bussed in students, paid for their entry fee to CPAC & when they were done voting for Romney, they all left again in their busses.

All was paid for by Romney.

Sure doesn’t sit well with me. Doubt it does with lots of others, also.
