Al Cardenas, head of the American Conservative Union, has said that Republican turmoil might lead to a brokered convention in which Jeb Bush, former Florida governor, would emerge as a “possible alternative” party nominee.
Mr Cardenas, who is running this year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), a gathering in Washington of some 10,000 conservatives, told MailOnline that it was not certain that one of the four current Republican candidates would emerge victorious.
His comments came as Republicans fretted publicly about the perceived weaknesses of Mitt Romney, the establishment choice and frontrunner, Rick Santorum, surprise winner in three states on Tuesday, Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul.
Jeb Bush, former Florida governor and younger brother of President George W. Bush, has repeatedly said he will not run in 2012. He is one of a number of senior figures who disappointed activists and party officials alike by staying on the sidelines.
“We'll know more in the next few weeks,” said Mr Cardenas. “The pressure’s already been on Mitt Romney to close the sale... and he hasn’t.” A split verdict on “Super Tuesday” on March 6th, when 10 states vote, could lead to a surprise at the Republican convention in Tampa in August, he suggested.

We’re electing delegates to the convention, at least in most cases, so it’s up to who we elect as to whether they’ll cast their votes for Bush. In some cases you can try to become a delegate yourself. This year, as many of us as possible should do that, because at a brokered convention your vote will count for a lot. There’s not much else they can do. The people have their chance to decide now but we can’t have them accepting a candidate who doesn’t get a majority of the votes, because it’s possible over half of the voters don’t want him. See: Clinton, 1992 election.
That would be GREAT — for Obama.
He’s been running against Bush for the last 3 years. Having another Bush to run against would be about the best he could hope for.

Surely, the other side is not dumb enough to EVER elect another Bush to the presidency. Two is enough for eternity.
If another Bush emerges at the convention, I think I’ll pass on voting. If the best the GOP elites can do is offer up has beens, lobbyist or dynasties, I will STAY HOME! Period.
The GOP has lost my monetary contributions that I sent in the past, forever.
Great...just what we don't need: a RINO to replace Romney-the-RINO.
Now....if a Conservative would win on the 2nd round of a brokered convention, they could be headed in the right direction........
It will come down to a 3rd Round, I think, because of the scheming of the Paulbot's in gaining placement as Delegates and voting for The Ralien in the 2nd Round, to screw things up.

Real winner of a plan - if the goal is to get most of the Republican base to stay in their nice, warm homes on election day.
