While billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson may have rescued Newt Gingrichs campaign in its early days, today, he may have just buried it.
Bloomberg News reports that Adelson, who has donated $11 million to Gingrichs Super PAC, does not plan to send any more money Gingrichs way. Bloomberg is citing an anonymous source familiar with their deliberations, though an Adelson spokesman declined to comment.
The move seems to be weeks in the making. After poor showings by Gingrich in the last several races and the re-resurgence of Rick Santorum, the former House speaker has once again been pushed to the back of the Republican field. And Adelson may be shifting his focus. According to CNN, Adelson met with Mitt Romney in Nevada last week and assured Romney that he will be behind him 100 percent should he become the nominee.
What may be more alarming though is as money seems to be flooding out of the Gingrich camp, it appears to be heading into to Santorums, no doubt helped by his three-state sweep Tuesday.

I was accused of wearing a tin foil hat when I said earlier this week that Obama might have done this to help Santorum succeed in the primary. Obama might prefer to draw out the primary process because he figures if we settle on a candidate early, we can spend more time attacking him. The polls have definitely swayed to his favor since the Republicans have focused on attacking each other instead of him. Of course this move was also made to shore up his base at the expense of galvanizing his opposition, just like most things he’s been doing in the past year, and probably give his donations a shot in the arm.
“Are conservatives going to allow the only candidate capable of beating obama”
polls show both Santorum and Romney more capable of challenging Obama than Newt.
And as stated, your omission of facts create an admission of spin and falsehood.
Gingrich did not “work for” Fannie/Freddie. Newt clearly stated his services were requested for advice. He does not work for free. Do you?
Newt clearly stated he ‘advised against’ the very thing they later did. In other words, his advice was ignored and those who consulted him went barreling ahead with their own bad plan.
“Please dont address any more of this trash to me. The politics of personal destruction, name-calling, hateful speech, etc. has no real place in an honest political discussion. Personally, I think its a real turn-off.”
I agree 100%.
We need to stop tearing down the Republicans, especially now that polls are showing Obama at 48%+ support.
All this does is make Obama’s reelection easier.
I'm glad you've become aware of Prokopton's tactics, as well.
Thank you. I will be sending more ASAP.
That’s exactl right.....They requested Newt’s service....and he didn’t make 1.6 million in one full swoop either....I believe that was over a number of years and not unusual for politicians to make money such as that after out of the loop so to speak. Not to mention this was money paid to the company if i remember correctly.
Golly this thing has been hased over enough already....moving forward would be a good thing but these people just are going to continue to carry the liberals talking points concerning Newt....it isn’t good for our side they do so...but then maybe they aren’t really on our side...hard to tell anymore who is really who.
Not that could be repeated in mixed company.
I'm glad you've become aware of Prokopton's tactics, as well.
They leave a trail sometimes and others pick up the banner and run with it.....and they are relentless to tear down Newt and those who support them.
Leaving out material facts distorts everything. What you state is true; he earned these consulting fees over a period of years (much as president Klinton does for speaking engagements....why anyone would pay to listen to a perjured president, I have no idea).
It may well be Prokopton is a Rinomeybot. Who knows?
I don’t know of any genuine conservatives, however, who lie at every possible opportunity. I do know that faux conservatives, those attempting to pass themselves off as one, do.
It’s not a good thing to be focused on bashing conservatives with liberal talking points. It’s worse, however, to lie and slander and smear.
You are not my fight, but blasting Gingrich over FMAC seems to be a hit job. I would guess you are replying to his attacks on Bain Capital.
“50 things you may not know about Rick Santorum”
GOODNESS! The 50 things are Good-ness things. Thank you for posting. But ... Did you even READ what you posted?
If you want to believe that, fine. Nobody has corroborated this, in fact, several officials have said it isn't true. It certainly didn't stop Gingrich from praising Fanie/Freddie to the press, in such glowing terms that Fannie/Freddie had it on their website. Now why would he do that if, according to you, Gingrich thought what they were doing was wrong?
I was accused of wearing a tin foil hat when I said earlier this week that Obama might have done this to help Santorum succeed in the primary.
He publicly stated that they did not follow his guidance, do you have anything to refute that? If no then the leaders of said entities have had plenty of time to refute it. No one has stepped up to say it isn’t true. I believe they have had adequate time to do so.
Post the entire article, or provide a link, which shows the date and context within which the comments in question were made and to which you refer. I refuse to opine solely on your own characterization of any statements Gingrich made given your posting history.

Exactly.. and is a tactic to deceive and mislead and this with the purpose of doing just that. I've seen it all too often and well known with media players as well.
Ya know the media complained because Newt's wife has been pretty much standing by but not saying anything....well she introduced Newt at CPAC..so of course CNN was reporting that she had done so, adding onto that very sentence she had a 6 yr. affair with Newt and then showed photos of the two together from that time.....nasty buzzards...always in for the kill!
That's what some Freepers who oppose Newt are like...they use the liberal "tactics" as if we can't spot them in a heartbeat.
Nope, nothing to do with Baine. Gingrich was a paid shill for agencies that were engaged in activities that nearly destroyed our economy. He also was not forthright about it. It doesn't make him the worst person in the world, just something relevant to judging his fitness for the presidency. I only post about it when I read one of his supporters attempting to spin it.
