Billionaire Gingrich Contributor [Sheldon Adelson] To Cut Support
Business Insider ^ | February 10, 2012 | Jaywon Choe

Posted on 02/10/2012 3:59:14 PM PST by GraniteStateConservative

While billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson may have rescued Newt Gingrich’s campaign in its early days, today, he may have just buried it.

Bloomberg News reports that Adelson, who has donated $11 million to Gingrich’s Super PAC, does not plan to send any more money Gingrich’s way. Bloomberg is citing an anonymous source “familiar with their deliberations,” though an Adelson spokesman declined to comment.

The move seems to be weeks in the making. After poor showings by Gingrich in the last several races and the re-resurgence of Rick Santorum, the former House speaker has once again been pushed to the back of the Republican field. And Adelson may be shifting his focus. According to CNN, Adelson met with Mitt Romney in Nevada last week and “assured Romney that he will be behind him 100 percent should he become the nominee.”

What may be more alarming though is as money seems to be flooding out of the Gingrich camp, it appears to be heading into to Santorum’s, no doubt helped by his three-state sweep Tuesday.

"But Newt wouldn’t do any better. "

I disagree.

With Newt the argument will be on the size and scope of the Federal Government.

That's an argument the commies can't win.

Newt has his SoCon bonafides in his votes as a member and leader of Congress. He SHOULD be able to bring the SoCons along and also engage on the battleground of the role of government.

Neither Santorum or Romney or Paul has BOTH.

To boot, Newt is correct on Foreign Policy.

When it comes to the principal four qualities (Social issues, Scope of government, Foreign Policy and COMMUNICATION), Newt is the only choice.

Personally I think Barry is so arrogant he just does not realize that there is a point beyond which the churches won’t go. He is getting a good lesson. I don’t think the Catholics are going to buy his grand compromise. Not even for a minute.

His sign on date makes him smart?
Likely he got some sober-up time off.
He needed it.

Gingrich never acted as an advocate to stop any legislation or regulation affecting Freddie Mac.

He used his own credibility to promote and support Freddie/Fannie through interviews with the media that were posted on their website, all at a time he had to have known the destruction they were doing to our economy. He did it all for money. He's a practitioner of the oldest profession.

That's your opinion. Prove it. Fannie and Freddie existed since, what, FDR? Why would he as an employee of the company know they were doing damage to the economy? Bush didn't know it. He said they wanted to reform Fannie/Freddie, but had no idea they would do this much damage or they would have tried harder. Newt was a low-level consultant of that company and I'm sure they would not have given him any inside info that showed what they were doing was damaging. Newt, like Reagan and most presidents and Congressmen didn't try to dismantle Fannie and Freddie while in government, so why when he had far less power out of Congress, would you expect him to do anything differently? Obviously since Fannie and Freddie didn't destroy our economy before, whatever the problems were seem to have escalated in the mid-2000s and I'm not even sure if Newt was working there at the time their problems developed.

He did it all for money.

So it's now immoral to work for a company for...OH, THE HORROR...money? So if he was a spokesman for them...does that mean every actor who stars in an advertisement for a company should be drummed out of the industry if that company later on ends up doing something illegal? This is nothing but negative campaigning, trying to associate candidates with something negative when the logic simply doesn't add up. No different than Romney trying to connect Newt's frivolous ethics charges to his resignation, which had no connection in timing or otherwise.

Fannie Mae, was founded in 1938 during the Great Depression, was part of the New Deal.

Freddie Mac was created in 1970 to expand the secondary market for mortgages.

....”but if it is Gods will to tear it down so it can be rebuilt from the ashes again, then so be it. It may also be tied into a much greater and prophetic plan for the entire World. Trial and Tribulation may be close at hand after all.”....

Yep...that’s how I see it...if Newt gets shoved aside then it’s because we’ve gone past where we can recover and Gods simply letting this nation reap what it’s sowed over the last 20 years.....I hope that’s not the case...but Santorum isn’t going to get the job done....he doesn’t know how to.

However I can’t help but think of Gideon’s Army....God kept decreasing the numbers and left Gideon with the bare minimum in order that the victory would clearly be seen as God’s victory......might be because of Newt’s turning to God He’s showing Newt and this nations people, it will be by God’s power..not man’s nor Newt’s if he chooses to appoint Newt to the Presidency. God can move the masses favorably toward Newt and he is known to change the course of history just in the nick of time, and often unexpectedly.....so we shall see.

Constitutional government would not be powerful enough to warrent that much financial risk.

So....you gonna vote for Paul? I am.

I am too old to throw my vote away on someone that doesn't agree with me. :)

Gingrich was shilling for Freddie/Fannie at the very time they were engaged in their destructive practices. As the "smartest man in the room" it is not believable that he didn't know what was going on.

No different than Romney trying to connect Newt's frivolous ethics charges to his resignation, which had no connection in timing or otherwise.

Nonsense.

In 1987 the House Ethics Committee found that Gingrich violated House Ethics Rules, (not IRS Tax Laws), Gingrich admitted he violated House Ethics Rules and apologized and the full House overwhelmingly sanctioned him with censure and payment of $300,000.00.

In1988 Gingrich resigned as Speaker of the House and, even though he had just been reelected, quit the House of Representatives.

The connection, and timing, is obvious.

1987 and 1988 should be 1997 and 1998.

You’re so right. Pray for Newt - he’s the only one who not only won’t cave to BHO - he’ll take him to the woodshed.

Once they’re away from the Republican cloisters and have to joust with BHO in the harsh light of libs and “independents”, the others simply won’t have the stomach for it.

Gingrich worked for Fannie/Freddie until 2007, well after it was obvious to anyone with a brain the problems their policies were creating. The destructive policies of Fannie/Freddie were not in existence when Reagan was president and Gingrich, as a historian, I'm sure knew that.

You seem to have a propensity to attack Gingrich on the housing crisis. Do you have anything to say about Barney Frank?

Prokoptone continues to lie about and smear Gingrich at every possible opportunity because he’s anti-Newt. He doesn’t care what the facts are or not....there were some others here a short while back who were doing the same thing....they are Newt bashers and are not interested in the facts.
