I Owe $130,000 in Student Loans
Jennifer Sammartino has a great education and a mountain of student loan debt By Gemma DiCasimirro and Alexis Leonard | Thursday, Feb 9, 2012 | Updated 5:43 PM EST
When Jennifer Sammartino needed help paying for college, she, like many students, took out federal and private loans. Now shes faced with over $130,000 in student loan debt.
After Sammartino graduated from La Salle University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. she had no luck getting a job. She then made the decision to go back to school, hoping that a Masters degree would bring in more job opportunities.
But graduate school also meant more loans.
Unable to get approved by herself, Sammartinos parents co-signed for the majority of her loans. Now they could be in serious financial trouble too.
If Sammartino defaults on her loans, her parents could lose their home.
Sammartino, now with her Masters degree is still unable to find a job in her field. She works as a case manager for special needs children, but her salary isn't enough to pay back all the money she owes for her education.
The debt seems overwhelming to Sammartino. I would like to be able to pay my student loans, and we know that we have to pay them back, she says, But we dont know where to start.

Great degree????? NO, ONLY at occupy.
Go see oba mao!
It's hard to believe she was unable to find a job. I should think the $100,000 per year salary offers would just come POURING in to someone with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology...
There are many jobs out there where she could use her degree. Problem is, they don’t pay that well. That’s also part of the reason so many are unemployed, they think they’re worth far more than they really are.
It’s hard to feel sorry for these morons.
No matter how much information you pour in the head of a fool, they are still foolish. Seriously, would you hire someone to work in your company that has been able to run up a six figure deficit in budget even before they got a job?
That skill is only valuable to Obummer and his staff.
She could hit up Gorilla Monsoon for a loan.
Ya just gotta LOVE American education!
Three’s the charm. Go to trade school and become an electrician or plumber.
I would have thought that her dad’s wrestling career would have been able to spring for college.
Jennifer made several very costly mistakes.
First, she pursued, and obtained a degree in psychology. Did she ever investigate what she could do with that degree? Obviously not.
Second, Jennifer must not have taken a single economics class for her degree. If she did, she’d have gone to a less expensive school, and been more judicious about using loans.
And, to compound the issue, she went back for a very expensive Master’s degree, that had the same apparent value as her UG degree.
Guess what Jen? That’s how life works, you make mistakes you pay. The bigger the mistake, the more you pay. Shut up, quit crying, pay your loans.
BTW, I do think college is hugely overpriced, but you can get a UG degree in something useful, from a decent school, using a community college for around $20k.
Wow! All that money, and nothing buyt a bachelors degree in psychology?
No wonder our country is in such trouble. Anyone who chooses a degree in psychology and then spends $130,000 to get it deserves to be at the lower rung of the econonic ladder.
Our post HS educational system is totally broken and is being run like a mafioso job. A total shake down of the federal treasury to educate the masses in trivial subjects that make the atudents feel good about themselves.
This is the new light coming in the tunnel for taxpayers...how do you think these loans are going to be repaid? Look in the mirror, this is the next bailout.
“Go to trade school and become an electrician or plumber.”
She’s not that smart or talented. People can make fun of electricians and plumbers but they can’t keep up.
She’s just following the Obama/Biden plan for borrowing her way into prosperity. That was really brilliant planning. I have a loan and can’t pay it back. So I’ll get another loan and go to school some more and go deeper into debt on the hopes that in the future my degree which I can’t find a job for now will get me a job then. Worked out well for you, didn’t it.
This is a person with a $130K Masters Degree in Stupid.
If she gives Uncle Sam 4 years of her life then I think the US Military has a Student Loan re-payment program.
Seems to me a ‘master psychologist’ that can’t manipulate someone into paying her loan hasn’t learned all that much about psychology...
Actually, I've done quite well with these degrees. I'm a few years from retirement and have had a good career working in social work, banking and the defense industry. In retrospecty, it's been very "rounding" and has give me insight to lots of different people and opinions.
