The age-old hobby of tossing a football or Frisbee on the beach on a beautiful summer day in Los Angeles will cost you a cool $1,000 thanks to a new ordinance passed by the Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
Claiming that such activity could be dangerous to other beachgoers, the Supes outlawed "any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll any ball, tube, or any light object other than a beach ball or beach volleyball on or over a beach.
I see more and more public places like beaches prohibiting smoking too.
I mean, there are perfectly good and acceptable places for these activities.
If you want to throw a football, find a public football field.
If you want to toss a Frisbee then find a public Frisbee fie....oh...hold on...no...wait a sec.
Ummm...nevermind.
I would find the office that came up with this stupid rule and pitch a frisbee at every head there.
Not to worry.
$16 Trillion holes are still permitted in the District of Columbia.
Civil society is made less civil when criminal law is made to criminalize every activity or behavior which only has some modicum of potential harm if everyone involved, participant and observer, behave negligently.
The use of criminal law to make any behavior the political
class choses as illegal for some, mere, perceived possible harm and only a potentiality under certain, not just any circumstance, and not because such harm is certain either, is destructive of the essential Liberty required for a free society.
Civil courts, where one litigant can claim the other was negligent, and the adjudication of civil suits, provides sufficient legal remedy for actual harm without denying Liberty for everyone on the mythical whim of creating an accident free Utopia.
I would guess the politicos and cops are too stupid to see this in advance. Likely won't work out well for them.
There goes my beach-ball stock....
Or, maybe something more significantly noticeable.
When are we gonna kick CA out of the US?
Hasn’t worked yet with videos of cops beating and shooting unarmed people or shooting dogs or tazing or pepper spraying people doing nothing wrong.
Plenty of videos on Youtube and the cops are still doing it more and more.
So, no more rolling joints on the beach? Not gonna go over well.
Time to occupy the beach, I guess. The 1% don’t want any of the 99% to get hit in the head.
The original company that makes Fribees is located in California-

Wonder if they might leave
Every member of that board that voted for this dictatorial law should be fired immediately.
Act like scum. Be treated like scum.
"Mom always said-don't play ball in the house!"
SCRATCH THAT!
Per article:
Throw a football or Frisbee on an L.A. beach in the summer: prepare for a $1,000 fine
"any person to cast, toss, throw, kick or roll any ball, tube, or any light object other than a beach ball or beach volleyball on or over a beach.
“if cigarette smokers were not such absolute ignorant trashy scum bags “
You might want to insert the word “some” before the word “cigarette”.
I smoke. I have never littered. I go unnoticed just like the rest of the responsible smokers. We are not ignorant trashy scumbags.
It's the perception of the citizenry, especially the normal citizenry that counts.
Get the idjut out on the gulf quick.....Let him t off a fishing boat.
I have many friends who smoke grew up with smokers and have hung around with large groups of smokers. Some are very conscientious of where they put their butts. Most are not.
The reality of cigarette butts everywhere you look at the beach, at parks, in playground sandboxes, in peoples yards, on the sidewalks; and most annoyingly - starting fires on the side of roads - doesn't speak well of smokers as a group.
Most smokers are trashy scumbags who throw out their butts wherever they are without any concern for littering.
If not for that I would have a great deal of sympathy for them.
As it is.... act like scum, be treated like scum.
