Why do these stories always say ‘one of the most influential evangelical leaders’ and you’ve never heard of the guy?

Probably because you aren't in their flock or watch their TV program or get their newsletter. Evangelicals are highly decentralized. I doubt non-Catholics (or most Catholics!) could name 1 US Cardinal - or even their local bishop. Heck, I have a hard time remembering who's a cardinal these days.

I've only heard of Land because he opines on politics from time to time.

Story did say that “Dr. Richard Land is the president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission (ERLC)” that’s pretty darn influential given how large the Southern Baptist Convention is.

You should’ve processed a thought before posting this. Just because you’ve never heard of him, why wouldn’t you consider the fact that hundreds of thousands of Baptists know exactly who he is?

Maybe you’ve never heard of him, but as a Southern Baptist I know Dr. Land very well and I respect him and his stand for life!

If you have Christian Radio, he has a daily show called Richard Land Live.

He is indeed very prominent, sorry you haven’t heard of him.

I am not a follower of the evangelical movement, or the Southern Baptist Church, but Dr. Richard Land is a familiar name to me. I've heard it several times.

The overwhelming majority of Baptists and evangeliscals HAVE by now heard of Dr. Land.
