Homeowner Shoots Suspected Intruder Dead on 225th Pl. SW in Esperance(WA)

A homeowner in the Edmonds neighborhood of Esperance shot and killed a suspected burglar Tuesday night, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

A 911 call alerted the police to the shooting just after 8 p.m. at a house in the 8900 block of 225th Place Southwest, which is in unincorporated Snohomish County. It's a dead-end street off 90th Avenue West, which is north of 228th Street Southwest.

The Sherriff's Office reports that the suspected intruder died at the scene.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit are investigating the shooting.

"It'll be a long night for our detectives," said Kevin L. Prentiss, bureau chief for the sheriff's office. "We'll see what they get and take it from there."

Prentiss said the identification of the body should be known in a few days. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner's office will conduct an autopsy.

Burglaries have been a hot topic in neighboring Edmonds recently. Just today, the Edmonds Police Department sent out a news release reporting that, in the past two months, it has arrested several individuals for burglary, including some who were captured as they prepared to commit the act.

Interesting that more burglars seem to receive the informal 'death penalty' than do murderers receiving a formal death penalty.

Our criminal justice system needs to stop placing property protection above the protection of human beings.

About the only way to reduce the number of crimes is to reduce the number of criminals. The recidivism rate for dead burglars is very low.

However, with the government and most of the media telling people that they're entitled to this that and the other, there doesn't seem to be any shortage of industrious a..holes who are NOT too lazy to steal (like most all welfare recipients, food stampers, etc.) and decide to eliminate the government middle man.

Erm, why?

Perp breaks in. Gun user/resident confirmed as Owner. Owner confirms gun is his. Owner shoots perp. Perp dead.

Who are these 'detectives' and what is their collective IQ? 40? Procedures about collecting shell casings etc. be damned. The situation should take about 10 minutes to sum up.

I keep a Glock 34 (9mm) here at home. I just bought it, and have not even taken it to the range, yet. It’s a little long for concealed carry (Georgia), but I wanted a longer barrel for accuracy at the range.

The detectives are unhappy. Killing the burglar has probably cut the number of burglaries they get to investigate by a significant percentage. Somebody who supports himself by residential theft has to do a LOT of burglaries (one per night? more?) to get enough cash to buy his drugs.

Its still a homicide. It would be handled the same way in any of the 57 states.

The CSI effect has produced overstuffed classrooms at universities offering Criminal Forensics majors. The problem, in some cases, is the laborious evidence gathering process.

Car wrecks on the Interstate see the police and the ‘accident reconstruction team’ (a ridiculously highfalutin title considering it involves a great deal of guesswork) taking hours to clear an accident scene.

What’s usually left unsaid in these situations is that the police, the forensics team et al are often unwittingly doing the bidding of insurance companies and lawyers who see lawsuit dollars dancing before their eyes. All the police work and evidence gathering is, of course, taxpayer funded which is quite convenient for the lawyers.

Yes but that doesn’t speak to the ‘long night’ comment which has the unmistakable ring of the police honked off that somebody did the job better and more efficiently than they.

I don’t know... I think the detectives are fine with the
shoot but they do have to verify the facts and present them
to the DA so he/she can sign off. Once this is done the
shoot becomes legit and the homeowner is spared further
rectal exams/liability/wrongful death lawsuits. So you might say this works to the homeowners benefit.

Erm, why?

Looking for some way to charge the homeower with a crime. After all it's only the police who are allowed to go around killing people with impunity.

"Somebody breaks into your home and they are a suspected intruder?"

Well in THEORY you could have smashed your own window, invited someone you didn't like and shot him.
In theory.
You could also be covering for someone else or some other crime. In theory.
Expect to be questioned and investigated if you shoot someone, even when completely justifiable.

I'm not sure that is true. They still vote, but are not supposed to after they are dead. I guess if you want to say that they will not commit any more burglaries, you are correct.

I was attacked on the job by a would-be robber who went after the bank bag we used for change and petty cash, I retained the bag and beat down the robber. They let him go and charged me with felonious assault. And that's the world we live in.

The justice industry requires victims and criminals to operate, and refusing to be a victim means a loss of revenue unless they decide the criminal label fits you just fine.

That is so wrong. Only in the upside down world of jailhouses and liberals...
Do you live in NYC or any of the other (D) bastions where the local crime syndicate owns they mayor?
