Obama also has made tremendous inroads on enemy territory against each of the four Republicans, winning roughly 20 percent support among conservatives and even those who consider themselves to be very conservative.

I think we need to take this seriously. Never underestimate the level of confusion among the American electorate.
There is no doubt that some registered Republicans will vote for President Obama. Just as the Democratic Party still has some conservative Southerners and northern ethnic blue-collar “Reagan Democrats,” the Republican Party does have RINOs.
But this poll goes beyond that and says some self-identified conservatives will vote for Obama. I think this is the best explanation:

I've been working hard in my own circles to convince people that Newt Gingrich is a tolerable Republican candidate, although I am supporting Santorum and am glad to see Santorum recovering. Barack Obama is far worse than anyone in the Republican race this year, with Romney only barely better than Obama in the positions he was stating a few years ago before he decided to run for the Republican Party at a national rather than state level and started taking a more conservative line.
Again, I can live with either Santorum or Gingrich. Both bring good things to the table and it's a matter of choosing which is better than the other.
However, even in my own church circles, I know a PCA pastor who is publicly stating that he will vote for Barack Obama because he kept his marriage together, and he thinks Obama is fixing the economy that (in his view) Bush ruined. That's absolutely wrong, but how do you argue with ignorance?
I'm trying to convince the minister that voting for a baby-killer is unacceptable and I have a chance of convincing him if Santorum is the Republican nominee, but I don't think I'm going to succeed if Gingrich is the Republican nominee, which means this pastor is going to vote for Obama and urge his church members to do so.
Remember, this guy is not a political or religious liberal, though he's definitely politically naive. He's an ordained minister in a strongly conservative and predominantly Southern denomination, and he's got a lot of conservative Democrats in his congregation who usually vote Republican on national issues but Democrat for state and local offices.
We have to deal with such things. Politics is sometimes difficult because people are often difficult.

Oh, those are the "take their ball and go home" Republicans who promise to stay home on election day, vote "third party" or write in Ron Paul...or other such foolishness.
They also risk losing the House and seeing no gains in the Senate if they don't vote.

Nice analysis. Romney is not conservative enough for voters so they will go with Obama instead? Laughable.
This may be southern Republicans who switched in the past few years from the Democrats and yearn to return to their traditional base, particularly after Haley Barbour stabbed Republicans in the back in MS. Or it may be New Englanders who haven’t voted Republican for years but still consider themselves “Republican.” Or maybe it is PA, CA, and OR people trying to curry favor with their Democrat neighbors.

I blame the Republican hierarchy. Republican voters have demanded a truly conservative candidate, but the powers that be insist on foisting upon us a RINO. If Obama is re-elected, you cannot blame the conservative voter. Most probably feel they have no choice
Republicans? Democrats? Got to stop thinking that way. Polls on this subject will always show that and clearly demonstrating what is wrong. Conservatives! Liberals! Now do the poll, how many Conservatives would vote for Obama? Our problem is libs have infiltrated the Republican party just like every other institution, churches supporting gays, abortion and contraception, little boys joining the Girl Scouts, abortionists being funded by breast cancer funds....it's a liberal infection.
The question is, will you support any organization that allows this liberal mind set in the ranks of YOUR core values? I left the Episcopal Church, won't buy girl scout cookies and refuse to donate any more to Koman. AND I darned sure left the Republican party behind long ago. If I contributed to the RNC here in SC, a portion of those dollars would fund Lindsey Graham ... A Republican who just might cite for Obama to become Sec of Defense. Allowing even a small percentage of your funding to support what you are dead set against is a sign of mental instability.
54% of Catholics voted for Obama, 78% of Jews, now 23% of Republicans. We either have to purge the ranks or sit back and "enjoy" watching everything we believe in destroyed by the older hippies we knew in the 60's. Peace, Love and drugs led directly to a Charles Manson conclusion. And things don't change. Libs are the enemy within, we need to treat them with as much intolerance as we do shoe bombers.
I wanted Cain to stay in. I personally don’t think the dirt they had was anyway worse than Democrats. People living in glass houses should not be throwing stones. Democrats have no grounds to criticize infidelities in Republicans. Recently revealed the Democrat “god” JFK had affairs- even when Mrs K miscarried.
I’m in Alabama and am now leaning toward Santorum. But really when it comes right down to it- I’ll vote whoever can actually beat Obama. He has to go.
I do know that I’ll never throw my vote away on a 3rd party candidate again - I did that with Ross Perot- in essence giving my vote to Clinton.
Most Dems act like they won’t leave their party - no matter what. Some may but the majority act like they’ll go down with the ship if need be.
The vote doesn’t seem as likely to be “split” on that side of the isle like it would be for Republicans. Democrats are just more rabid about party than Republicans are. A Republican can vote Conservative Independent. I can’t see a Democrat voting “liberal Independent” (this is all my opinion of course - I’ve never actually seen a study on it)
These numbers don’t surprise me at all.
They may change if the shift to Santorum continues, but if Romney is the nominee, voters are going to make the decision to stay with the devil they know.
And, whether voters disagree with his socialist policies or not, Obama’s personal approval rates have remained higher than job approval numbers, so somehow large numbers of Americans still find themselves bonded to Obama emotionally.
I call hugh and series BS. They were talking about this on KLBJ in Austin and not one conservative called in supporting 0 bummer.

Look at it this way -
It doesn't matter if you're driving on the Interstate or taking the scenic route . . .
If your driver is headed over the abyss, the result is the same.
I get the feeling a lot of Republicans in DC KNOW we're headed for the abyss, and prefer a Democrat (Obama) taking the blame, rather than a Republican.
Their thinking is that they'll be there to fill the vacuum afterwards, and take power (what they both really care about).
Hence, the insistence on Myth Romulan.
Any “conservative” who supports the most radical, leftist president in U.S. history is definitely NOT!!! a conservative.

Libertarians. Ron Paul supporters. They voted for Obama last election on promises to end the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and dismantle US foreign bases.
Obama did bring the troops home from Iraq and is in talks to end the Afghanistan war. He’s in the process of dismantling the US military. He’s not supporting Israel. Given no Republican addresses any of the Paul supporters’ concerns nor do they attack Obama on the concerns of Paul voters, I’m not suprised that they stick with Obama.
If Republicans were not out of touch, they would talk about Obama’s abuse of Americans with targeting them, politically, as terrorists and creating a police state. They would talk about the limo-liberals thinking they are rulers - above the constitution. They would talk about reigning in the Fed and Democrat corruption. They would talk about Obama’s anti-second amendment agenda in fast and furious and Holder’s actions and statements around gun control.
No one can please the Paul supporters’ desire to legalize drugs because it is so radical and unpopular. But Democrats do flirt with legalizing pot and that is not as unpopular. Soros is behind pushing for that.
That percentage is about right and they are the ones pulling the levers of power in the GOP and have been since 1988. Reagan was just a brief interlude into their positions of power but even then they were there doing damage to Reagan and conservatives.
They are so embedded in the party in key positions of power removing them is virtually impossible. Nothing will change until they leave or the conservatives leave. If the conservatives leave they no longer have a viable party and it would quickly collapse.
We are so screwed as a party and a country and all by the liberals of both parties.
