The Turkish news is reporting that Iran Quds forces are marching into Syria to quash the rebellion. The Tatler reported:
According to the Turkish newspaper, Sabah, the commander of the Quds forces, Qassem Soleimani and 15,000 of his fighters have entered Syria with the mission of assisting in the suppression of the Syrian protestors. The Quds forces will act as a firewall for the Assad regime as the Syrian army is finding itself in a difficult situation where many officers are joining the opposition because they do not approve of the mass killings of the civilians, which so far has taken the lives of more than 5,000 people.

The deal with Syria is to expand airport facilities in Lakatia and allow for a minimal military presence...not build a naval port facility.
The video you linked shows two Iranian frigates visiting existing port facilities. Those two represent 40% of the servicable frigates in their fleet and these five frigates are the largest ships they have (except three very aged destroyers that seldom leave port).
They have no shipping capability to move a fully equipped battalion let alone a division.
I am not saying that Iran is not moving 15,000 troops to Syria...they may be. But there is nothing in the posted article or the idle speculation of a number of posters on this thread that shows how they are going to do it.
What amazes me is the number of lib friends I have who actually believe that our pull-out in Iraq, the Arab Spring, Libya et al represent significant FP success.
Latakia is Syria’s weak link. Knock it out and they can’t resupply!
Are you certain this is as hard to accomplish as you seem to think. I don't, not by any means. It would not be difficult to move these forces into position in Syria....especially with Russias approval.
It just might be a “sign”.
If they’re marching, then those poor troops will need boots and food. How fast will Hussein write them out a big check with lots of zeroes? Or has he already?
Both Iran and Russia are building naval ports in Syria. Iran at Latakia. Russia at Tartus. Google ‘Iranianis to build large naval port at Latakia’ for videos, sources, dates, etc.
Yep....Too few understand the why of US presence on the Internatioal Stage...especially in the Middle EAst....Our footprint there has been the only thing keeping the entire Middle East from blowing each other up with all the dynamics among them for power.
The most any can do now is stall this trajectory.....it's just not possible to stop it now.

got Debka?
Sounds more like an invasion to me.
Indeed....I have an idea that Russia is the quiet partner who is intiating all this...Iran and others have determined with Russia tit-for tat....somehow they'll agree to attach Israel for what each will stand to gain by doing so in what ever dibolical agreement they forge among themselves. But I have no doubt with this Russia is playing them BIGTIME...and will turn on them once they advance their plans.
Jeez, almost two hours since posting and nobody has yet pointed to Bible passages exactly predicting this episode!
They must be busy elsewhere, possibly on a Romney thread...
“I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest.”
Those words are as true today, as they were when Churchill said them.
“”Qassem Soleimani and 15,000 of his fighters have entered Syria with the mission of assisting in the suppression of the Syrian protestors.””
I see opportunity. What a great time to MOAB the Iranian special forces and syrian military units.
The Israelis can say if America will not protect the liberty of the citizens of the world, Israel will.
Now that would leave a mark.
Was going to say...15K...thats maybe 9-10- SEALs at most.
It’s the rules of engagement that is crippling us. If we are at war, then we are at war with every SOB in the country. Kill’em all and let Allah sort them out. Drop the BFH.
Assad is a dictator, but a secular one. Whatever anyone might say about him, he hasn't (by and large) persecuted anyone for his religion. He has disallowed Christians proselytizing to Sunnis because of the usual violent reaction from them. And he has clamped down on Sunnis because they are trying to overthrow him. Now, if Middle Eastern politics involved safeguards for the rights of minorities, I'd support his overthrow. But in reality, Sunnis have this way of banning sects they consider heresies. Alawites are considered heretics or even apostates by Sunnis, the penalty for which is death. This means that a Sunni victory could result in the extermination of millions of Alawites in Syria. Now, if there's a faith that deserves to be erased from the planet, it's the Sunni faith, not the Alawite one. Note that Iran also supports Christian majority Armenia against Sunni majority Turkey, so it's not purely a religious issue.
