I've got the answer to why is Russia so fixated on supporting Syria? If Israel is crushed and Syria controls Lebanon and the Russia/Syria axis takes over the Israeli super giant offshore gas fields and secures an almost total lock on European gas sales. As it is developing Israel and Poland will be able to supply much of Europe's gas needs within the next few years.
