A federal judge on Monday upheld the Texas law requiring women to have a sonogram before having an abortion, saying an appeals court had forced him to declare the law constitutional.
District Judge Sam Sparks had previously struck down parts of the law, but his latest ruling said he's bound to follow the direction of the New Orleans-based appeals court.
A spokeswoman for the state Department of Health Services said the ruling clears the way for full-enforcement of the law, which was supposed to take effect Oct. 1 but has ping-ponged through the federal courts in legal challenges.
The agency posted guidance letters and information for doctors and patients on its website Monday. Spokeswoman Carrie Williams said officials would be checking to make sure abortion providers were following procedures during facility inspections.
The law requires doctors to show women images from sonograms, play fetal heartbeats aloud and describe the features of fetuses at least 24 hours before abortions. There are exceptions in cases of rape, incest, fetal deformity and for women who travel great distances to a doctor.

This is EXCELLENT news. WOOO HOOOOO
Unborn babies throughout Texas are very happy about this!!!
I mean are these "caring doctors" who are abortionists just interested in the money????
Don't bother answering. I know the answers and so do you.
Judge Sam Sparks appears to be President George H. W. Bush appointee...
Not only unborn babies but God himself is very pleased by this !!!!!!!!!!!!!
The left doesn’t deal in common sense, and for a reason. It goes against their agenda, just like voter ID laws. There is always a method to their madness. They have to do contortions to make excuses for their ridiculous objections to everything that makes sense.
Finally! Some good news! Thanks for posting!
Thank you LORD
Amen
I am so glad they have taken this route. I started arguing years ago that if we couldn't outright ban abortion that we should tax and regulate it to death.
This is good. A lot of young women will now see the truth, and the truth will set them(and their unborn children) free.
Now it will be very hard in Texas t still call it a mass of cells and Mom will get to see the lie firsthand.I’ve always thought they should have to look into the face of who they are going to execute...sort of like the right to face your accusers and all....
Liberals sure hate the truth ever coming out, against sonograms, against voter ID, etc.
Thr truth disproves liberalism at the core. Progressive policy has always been about division, if enough people realized that politics exaggerated how much the rest of the world really hated them based on their ethnicity, sexual practices, or religion, politicians would be scrambling for their money, and would be desperate. In fact, most of progressivism is run by distorted fears and antipathy that is overinflated.
I have always liked it when people recommended that an ultrasound be taken when a woman is considering an abortion, if the unborn has reached fetal stage, it would look pretty human from the ultrasound, and possibly encourage reconsideration.
However every time these ‘exceptions’ are included it only undermines everything that has gone before...so are children conceived through rape or incest not human? just like any other? are ‘deformed’ children also not human? If they are not human then why are any others human? And the whole ‘long distance’ think sounds like a huge out, show the sonogram every time.
I do feel that a fetus is human. The developing unborn has reached that point where it has the beating heart and brain wave patterns, that’s plenty human, and it certainly has developed and survived for quite some time. Deformed children are still human, working with disabilities and being slow learning how to read were serious issues for me as a child, I also had, well plenty of deformities as a kid. To a degree, plenty of these were corrected by the time I was reaching my teens, but if you could compare how I appeared as a child to how I appeared as an adult, plus saw my school grades, you could see how my parents’ patience paid off, and how if my parents wanted to prevent me from being born, or perform the Belgian euthanasia of infants, they would have made a serious mistake. Likewise, my nephew was a lightweight at birth (under 6 lbs), and the family prayed on his behalf, but now he’s a 6’4” 200+ lb high school varsity senior playing to his heart’s delight at football and basketball. Again, it’s hard to estimate the kind of potential before birth, or at childhood, that a child has. Again, despite the difficulties that deformed or disabled children may bring, I do feel that God has a place in his heart for such children, as well as those who do decide to raise them.
Again, politics dislikes what lessens the conflict, or in this case, gives a very human appearance to a fetus and how it has developed since conception.
“The law requires doctors to show women images from sonograms, play fetal heartbeats aloud and describe the features of fetuses at least 24 hours before abortions. There are exceptions in cases of rape, incest, fetal deformity and for women who travel great distances to a doctor.”
If that is all that it requires why should there be any exception?
What is wrong with a raped woman, or a woman who has an incestuous or deformed child know what it is they are about to abort?
Are we alleging knowledge is harmful?
It’s not about choice; it’s about death.
