GOLD BEACH, Ore. (AP) Dan Conne says he and his wife and son thought they were going to die after getting lost while picking mushrooms and spending nearly a week in the rugged forest of southwest Oregon.
They spent the nights huddled in a hollow log and considered sacrificing their pit bull, Jesse, for food.
"She's that good a dog, she'd have done it, too," Conne said.
But help finally arrived Saturday when a volunteer helicopter pilot decided to look outside the search area and spotted the family Dan, his wife, Belinda, and their 25-year-old son, Michael on the edge of a deep ravine in tall timber. The three were about 10 miles from the town of Gold Beach, roughly 330 miles south-southwest of Portland.

I don’t know if it was just me, but I once went on a 5 day fast with just water and after the third day the appetite disappeared..
The true facts of this case are being suppressed. The real behind the scene facts being these folks were held captive by Bigfoot.
Because, I'm thinking maybe they found some...
“I wonder how many starving dogs would attack and eat their masters?”
A lot, heck pit bulls do it for a light snack on a regular basis
I think these morons have been eating too many bad mushrooms. I sure hope they are charged for the cost of the search and rescue.
I hope they kept good notes, so they’ll know which shrooms not to eat their next visit to the woods. The dog nearly paid the price!
Nothing here contradicte the idiots/morons theory.
Really?
My advice for anyone lost in the woods is to start flowing downhill. That leads to creeks, creeks lead to rivers, rivers lead to oceans - and all of the above lead to human habitation.
Staying where you are and starving, or wandering around aimlessly (people without direction tend to travel inadvertently in a circle) seem to be less of a sure thing than heading downhill.
7 nuts unless the dog and man were neutered..
I just KNEW there was more to this story than was being reported...
One can only hope. I guessing they voted for 0.
Need any further explanation?
I’ve been to Gold Beach. Pretty area.
The father showing how his wife used a dead cell phone to signal the rescue helicopter.
A Pit Bull with three nuts walks into a bar, er forest...
Buying mushrooms at the grocery store is just so damn hard that I prefer to stomp around in the cold/dark/wet, risking getting lost and eating the wrong mushroom.
They were 10 miles from the pacific ocean and after a week they couldn’t find it? Here’s a hint: The sun sets in that direction.
