GM, Ford feud over Super Bowl ad
(Reuters) - A simmering feud between General Motors Co and Ford Motor Co heated up on Sunday as Ford objected to GM's Super Bowl advertisement for its Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
The ad, which will run on NBC's television broadcast of the Super Bowl on Sunday, depicts an apocalyptic scene in which Chevrolet Silverado pickup trucks and their owners escape death and make it to a pre-arranged meeting point.
But, one of their friends, identified as "Dave," who drives a Ford, doesn't make it to the meeting site, in the video that plays off the idea that the ancient Mayans predicted the world would end in 2012.
A letter from Ford attorney Lynne M. Matuszak says that according to insurance industry data it is Ford, and not GM, that makes the safer pickup truck and she called on GM not to use the ad. GM has refused to pull the spot.
GM has had the advertisement on its website for a few days, and a posting on YouTube by Sunday afternoon had been viewed 1.6 million times. GM stands by the ad and its claims.
"Ford insists that Chevrolet refrain from running the commercial during (Sunday's) Super Bowl; refrain from any future use of the commercial; and permanently remove the commercial from its website, its YouTube and Facebook pages and any other Internet sites," Matuszak wrote.
Jim Farley, Ford's global sales and marketing chief, told reporters on sidelines of the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in Las Vegas on Sunday that despite the GM claim that pickup truck registrations over the past 30 years support the ad's claim, Ford will fight the commercial.

Had they not mentioned Ford specifically they would have had a decent Super Bowl ad. As it is, though, GM has just exposed themselves as low-class bums and undeserving of my business.
Ford gets the ‘stupid’ award for objecting and making a big deal out of it. They need to can everyone that was involved in that decision making.
As for me, I buy cars made in America - like Hyundai.
They ran an ad like that, and the Administration “politely” told them to stop, or else. Seriously. Amazing, but true.
I figured Dave with his Ford didn’t show up because he took a girl with him in his truck since it’s a sexy truck, and he’s not sharing. And the 4 guys with the twinkies are going to be lonely, if you know what I mean.
The SuperBowl was befouled by the stench of ads from GE, GM, and Chrysler.
Three democrat party companies I will NEVER purchase a product from.
I asked one my Ford "gnomes" who was their why not run some funny add's that evicorate the Volt.
The answer was no, not their style....
But they said they will however try to beat them with better product which means better sales.
I'll say it again, watch the Fusion "Energi" vs. the Volt.
My predictions on what the Fusion would be were spot on, I follow Ford and I get how the set the bar high and shoot for best in class.
The Energi once compared to the Volt will be like comparing a Trablant to a Shelby Cobra...

Good digs on GM and the Volt.
Warning for captioned language.
Now I’m upset.
The E-Trade baby wasn’t too funny.
If there was a Clydesdale commercial..I missed it.
At least I understand those commercials.
Ford should reply with an ad like this: Dave pulls up to the meeting area, with the bed full of food and adult beverages, and pulling a camping trailer. When he stops, the door of the camper opens and 6 good looking girls come out. Dave asks the Chevy guys if they have enough gas to get to the safe place, which they reply no, they drive Chevys. Dave says sorry!.
If the Obama Apocalypse occurs, we’ll have a real-life chance to see which truck is better.
f'em... Volt, Vette', Caddy, whatever.... keep them, put the out of work union pot-smoking/beer swilling assembly workers in them as condos. Park them in the newly "rebounding" Detroit... I hear that land is cheap.
Only quisling traitors would buy anything from Government Motors.
I know. I said I want them to start running that ad again.
Almost all Fords for me. My comment was meant to qualify your comment to include new or used GMs but, in hindsight, that wasn’t necessary.
