HOLLYWOOD star Liam Neeson is considering giving up his Catholic belief and becoming a Muslim.
The actor, 59, admitted Islamic prayer "got into his spirit" while filming in Turkish city Istanbul.
He said: "The Call to Prayer happens five times a day and for the first week it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit and it's the most beautiful, beautiful thing.
"There are 4,000 mosques in the city. Some are just stunning and it really makes me think about becoming a Muslim."
Liam was raised in Northern Ireland as a devout Catholic and altar boy and was named after the local priest.
But the star whose wife Natasha Richardson died aged 45 in a skiing accident in 2009 has spoken about challenges to his faith.
He said: "I was reared a Catholic but I think every day we ask ourselves, not consciously, what are we doing on this planet? What's it all about?
"I'm constantly reading books on God or the absence of God and atheism."
Liam was criticised in 2010 after claiming Narnia lion Aslan voiced by him in the movies is not based on Christ as CS Lewis had claimed but in fact all spiritual leaders including Mohammed.
His latest film The Grey, about an oil drilling team who crash in freezing Alaska, is released in the UK on Friday.
Can you imagine John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope or Clark Gable saying something this stupid?
He has always struck me as being limp wristed.
I believe what I believe and feel no need to amass a large group of like-thinking people around me. It is what it is...I am what I am. Please, leave me alone.
He is mourning his wife’s death. I know a lot of people who do and say strange things after losing a spouse. Hopefully he won’t do this.
I was subjected to the call to prayer for a whole year.
Each time the call ceased, the attacks from the insurgents would start. Rockets, mortars, and drive-by shootings at the checkpoints. They gave rise to the phrase, "When the yodeling stops, the bomb drops".
Neeson should just pay the jizyah and keep his damned mouth shut.
Rob Roy a Muslim? Say it ain’t so.
I wonder how beautiful music and buildings touches on the metaphysics of what is the purpose of human existence, why and how are we here. Maybe Ryland Homes is the true faith?
Neeson’s got to a certified nitwit - and a self-hater too boot. I’ve been forced to hear this damned “call to murder” for years on end, having lived in the middle east for quite a long time, at one time across the street from on of those infernal mosques, and I can tell you there is nothing beautiful about it. It’s a lot like fingernails on a blackboard.
What it does is get under your skin, not “into your spirit,” at least if you have a shred of self-respect.
One of the problems I have with celebrities is that they are always goofing around with some silly **** to impress their friends and their fans. Islam is “in” and “chic” right now with the weirdo crowd. This will wear off.
The Ireland sexual abuse scandal did incalculable damage to the Christian faith in Europe.
It’s the religious Goldman-Sachs of Europe.
“He said: “The Call to Prayer happens five times a day and for the first week it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit and it’s the most beautiful, beautiful thing.”
I could have sworn I heard the Kenyan say something along those lines. Come to think of it, he claims he’s part Irish too..
I would think a person joining a religion would be based on their belief in a particular supernatural being or supernatural beings, and not on pomp and circumstance.-Tom
I guess he also loves the screams of innocent people being murdered by followers of the Koran.
What a dork.
But again, it appears that ability to act is somewhat correlated with inability to do anything else.
Liam has in IQ of about 50.
I wanted to make that post, but couldn't come up with the words to do it with, that was my first thought also, on reading his statement.
Time to finish off watching anything I have with him in it, and toss it in the trash thereafter. Thanks bimboeruption.
Liam Neeson needs prayer, not condemnation nor sneers. He is still obviously emotionally unbalanced after the untimely death of his wife. He is not an unintelligent man, far from it. But in grief, in the need to find answers where no answers can be found, it is not unusual for people to throw logic out the window and consider embracing things that are truly alien to their true nature.
I don’t think he’s going to do any such thing (convert to Islam), I think he will ultimately come to his senses, and I will be praying for him to again recognize and embrace the reality of Christ.
