The Case for Romney - A president who owes you is better than.....

The Case for Romney - A president who owes you is better than one who owns you.

[BIG snip]

Let me try to offer some solace. Even if Romney is a Potemkin conservative (a claim I think has merit but is also exaggerated), there is an instrumental case to be made for him: It is better to have a president who owes you than to have one who claims to own you.

A President Romney would be on a very short leash. A President Gingrich would probably chew through his leash in the first ten minutes of his presidency and wander off into trouble. If elected, Romney must follow through for conservatives and honor his vows to repeal Obamacare, implement Representative Paul Ryan’s agenda, and stay true to his pro-life commitments. Moreover, Romney is not a man of vision. He is a man of duty and purpose. He was told to “fix” health care in ways Massachusetts would like. He was told to fix the 2002 Olympics. He was told to create Bain Capital. He did it all. The man does his assignments.

In this light, voting for Romney isn’t a betrayal, it’s a transaction. No, that’s not very exciting or reassuring for those who’d sooner see monkeys fly out their nethers than compromise again. But such a bargain may just be necessary before judgment day comes.

Why is Mitt Romney running? If you don't have core beliefs or a program, why do you run for the presidency? Power? Prestige? You were told to? You want to avenge your father? Be better than your father? Make your church mainstream? What!?

Mittens sold his soul to Bain a long time ago. Bain Capital is a vulture capitalist that looks for wounded victims to loot. High on Bain's short list is USA, Inc.

Excellent post.

Romney would spend the tax-payers money with abandon. He has no concept of middle class family budgets and the taxes already imposed.

His experience in the ‘private sector’ will be transferred to the government - spending big on Federal agencies and find more reasons to start new agencies. He will not repeal Obamacare, close the Dept. of Ed, EPA or do anything about Fannie & Freddie or DOE. He is a speculator not a visionary.

So.... it really isn't about Mitt's electability (which is so bogus -- as well as the claim he is the only one who can help the GOP ticket down the line) -- no, it's about the GOP Establishment being able to control Mitt

If that is their rational for Romney fine but the way they have tried to destroy Newt with lies about the Ethics in the House and his support of Reagan is disgusting

Support the facts about both candidates and let the voters decide

Yes. Mitt Romney will always see the American people as "investors" in his company and the GOP wants to fill Congress with Romney's board of directors.

Just what we need in the world today

Another spineless leader at the helm to deal with all the turmoil

No, Gingrich actually says what he means and is perfectly intelligible.

Romney is either saying what he means and nobody wants to believe it, or he is so poorly spoken that he never manages to say what he means and thus needs “interpretation.” This has been a constant since the beginning.

I know many FReepers like Rick Santorum but he has one of the same problems as Romney, he’s not inspiring.

However there also is one thing he doesn’t share with Romney and that is he doesn’t have GOP Establishment backing.

That is something Santorum shares with Gingrich (but since he’s not a threat to Mitt he’s not being reamed).

The one thing Gingrich does have that Mitt and Rick don’t have is his ability to inspire and teach, and that makes him the anti-Romney candidate for conservatives.

I think it’s just ambition. He’s been running for President for years now, and it’s simply because he sees it as the ultimate big prize. Also, I suspect his Mormon delusions may have something to do with it.

The fact that Mitt is a blank book with guarded emotions is RED flags all over for me.

I rather think he sees us as employees who can be fired should we prove unsatisfactory -- after all, he likes firing people! ;-)

I have no illusion who Romney is. There is no case for Romney, none.

The only case is against Obama, and all of the treasonous crzars and thugs beneath him.

Wall Street has shifted support to Mitt; K-Street is singing his praises and the GOP Establishment is dusting the drapes in the Oval Office in anticipation of his arrival.

The GOP Congress that is itself run by a “moderate” majority?

What makes you say "GOP Congress" -- if the conservative base stays home, I doubt the libs and moderates supposedly enamored of Romney will vote Republican down ticket. :(

He doesn’t stand a chance. He’s gonna roll over and play nice rino. Just like Awful Dull, and Juan Mc Lame.

There’s not gonna be a president Romney. He’s not a NBC either.

....ding, ding, ding, ... winner, winner, chicken dinner!!!
so right for so early in the morning! Amen and thanks...

How would mitt end up being a better President in the long run than barky would be as a lame duck?

Just off the top of my head, I can think of a couple of ways: The United States Supreme Court.

...ahhhh, YEAH , we can sure count on Mittens based on all those great judges he appointed in MASS!! Like the leading Gay Activist judge.... can’t wait for his great alternative picks versus Barky 0bamao.... riiiiiiiight

ymmv

Bain Capital is a vulture capitalist that looks for wounded victims to loot.

The cynical thought has indeed crossed my mind that Bain actually benefits from a limping economy -- more potential victims!
