Obama: Jesus would tax the rich By: Jennifer Epstein February 2, 2012 10:12 AM EST
President Barack Obama tied his proposal to raise taxes on wealthy Americans to his faith on Thursday, telling leaders gathered for the National Prayer Breakfast that Jesus teachings have led him to that conclusion.
The rich pay more not only because I actually think that is going to make economic sense, but for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesuss teaching that for unto whom much is given, much shall be required. Obama said at the Washington Hilton, delivering remarks at an annual event that every president has attended since Dwight D. Eisenhower.
We can all benefit from turning to our creator, listening to him, Obama said. Avoiding phony religiosity . This is especially important right now when were facing some big challenges as a nation.
When I talk about our financial institutions playing by the same rules as folks on Main Street, when I talk about making sure insurance companies arent discriminating against those who are already sick or making sure that unscrupulous lenders arent taking advantage of most vulnerable among us, Obama said, I do so because I genuinely believe it will make the economy stronger for everybody, but I also do it because I know far too many neighbors in our country have been hurt and treated unfairly over the last few years. And I believe in Gods command to love thy neighbor as thyself.

I am in a biding my time mode these days.
Very little is rattling me these days, bad as things look because when I consider that we see through a glass darkly and know what's no store for us on the other side, nothing here is of any real significance.
Back in June I had an encounter with God during a time of prayer that completely obliterated any ties my soul had to this world. If (and it was) that encounter was *seeing through a glass darkly,* I just cannot wait.
Romans 8:37-39 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I too had an encounter, years ago, since then I see everything as DUNG, except souls.
Had another birthday today, another year closer to my Lord, and I too cannot wait, in the meantime we must OCCUPY.
Sad to say that word Occupy has been co-opted, but par for the course for satan, as he mocks everything.
Years back I remember reading in the old testament, either proverbs or psalms, that if a rich man and a poor man go before the court and the rich mans cause is just, he shall be judged to his benefit....Paraphrased, maybe Quix can find it. He is a good source...
Hmmmmmm Granny.
I don’t recall that one . . .
Plausible. Just don’t recall a Scripture like that.
and
are great places to start . . . I’ll check some but I really don’t expect to find that one.
Most Scriptures that mention rich men at all are very hard on them.
Am humbled and blessed by your kind words, however.
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD.
BLESSED BE THE WORD OF THE LORD.

I’m wondering if you are thinking of something from some of the Mormon writings?
I think you’d better put the ladder up, regardless.
I am almost positive it was OT. I guess I'll have to pick up my bible (lazy me) and find it..and it had to do with justice if the rich man's cause was righteous.. In other words, the poor are not automatically right and the rich are not automatically wrong. One can rich and righteous before the court...(this would be taking disputes before the Jewish court. That's why I think it was the OT. Or possiblilbly NT. It was dealing with law according to scriptures...
LOL I guess before I use your name again, I'll be a little more specific...
I only have the bible and several books on the saints of the catholic church..that leaves Mormons out...
I do have to admit the majority of my bible reading was done many years ago. At my age its surprising I still remember but sometimes something is brought to mind..
There was another one on lending money and it was fine to charge interest to those outside of your brethren, but change no interest to family...
I seem to have money on my mind today.....maybe I'll win on the lottery....(fat chance) :O) I don't play it..
Does a democrat ever quote from scripture: he who does not work, does not eat....
NO!!!
But, I do all the time...
:O) good chuckle to you
Yep....I see this election as the line in the sand. “choose this day whom you will serve” was once stated long ago....and when a nation has refused to return to God, or accept His correction, there comes a time when that line is drawn and each decides. I think we’re there....or we’ve already stepped over it. In some respects we’re doing the very same thing Israel did....there came a time with them as well. Our nation’s people and leadership is not much different in how it has turned it’s back on God.
BTW did you get a load of NAncy Pelosi reading the scriptures? and then Obama’s speach about Jesus he really botched bigtime?.......me thinks they are going to make a religious war ahead in light of Romney’s being Mormon. But to do so they have to “appear” Christian to the unsuspecting just as Romney’s doing. They can’t see they are on the same level playing field.
Though very true, because so many don't know the scriptures they can and are mis-lead quite easily today...and that most assuredly includes Christians, who are of course the enemy of men's souls target.
Had Jesus not withstood satan in the wilderness then nothing else would have been possible which followed. It's a perfect example for us to see his tactics and recognize them when used on us or others.
I think the principle you articulate is Biblical. I just don’t recall a specific Scripture with wording close to that. May well be one. I just don’t recall it. Am reading the Bible through again . . . should run onto it, if it’s there.
The part about lending money and charging interest to pagans etc. I recall but not specifically where.
Mr. President, you continue to preside over the murder of millions of unborn every year and you lecture US about what Jesus would want?
Exactly.
Nothing like experiencing the presence of God to burn out the dross and set your priorities straight.
This annoyed me to new heights. The twisted arrogance of this man! The equating of “wealthy people should be doing good things” with “wealthy people should be handing over 1/3 of their money to the government.”
This man simply must be defeated this fall. We can tolerate a slightly rino president, but 4 more years of Obama could end America as we know it.
