Time for the left to quit looking for excuses and just tax everything that we eat, everything the moves, and everything that stands still. That should cover it and then and only then well they quit coming up with other things to TAX!

First they came for your firearms
Then they came for your alcohol, but reneged
Then they came for your tobacco
Then they came for your alcohol again
Then they came for your transfats
Then they came for your sugar
Next they will come for your chocolate....then they died.

I'm a tree hugger, give me a paper list of things that shouldn't be taxed.

1. Business
2. Income
3. Services
4. Residential real estate.

Sugar does not cause diabetes.

I had a doctor tell me that once. So I asked her, "What does cause diabetes?"

She said, being overweight.

I said: "Well?"

End of conversation.

“There is NO SUCH THING AS “JUNK” FOOD.”

I used to believe the same thing until I one day switched to eating only homemade natural foods made from scratch and using all natural products. For a year I didn't knowingly ingest a single man-made chemical. I even used filtered water and homemade Amish soap to shower.

I lost over 50 pounds that year with the same level of physical activity and I never felt hungry. I still ate ice cream, fried chicken, burgers, etc but it was all organic and natural. I also felt much more alive, much smarter(I couldn't really test this) and my vision actually improved(verified by eye doctor).

Unfortunately, I no longer live near the Amish and organic food in Manhattan is extremely expensive. I feel tired every day and am gaining weight constantly. I'm trying to move where I can afford to eat healthy again.

Commercially processed and/or cooked food is not made for your health. It is made to keep costs as low as possible, keep things edible as long as possible and make money. There is so much about the body we don't know and ingesting these chemicals every day is not good.

Sugar is white death, it kills more people than any other drug around. Sugar should be banned, we should use the power of the federal government to ban the transport, sale or consumption of sugar. We own it to our lazy fat diabetes ridden children to put sugar pushers in jail. Dido the trans fat pushers at Mickey Dees

Be careful of secondhand sugar breath. That stuff will kill you. Stay away from anyone eating anything sweet.

This is absolutely ludicrous.

Sugar does not cause diabetes. Diabetes causes problems metabolizing sugar, leading to increased blood sugar, which is why people made the erroneous assumption that sugar causes diabetes.

Sugar also does not cause weight gain. Of course, the idea that consuming a single food type (whether it’s carbohydrates, lipids, or proteins) leads to weight gain is incredibly seductive and suggests that simply eliminating that food type will reverse obesity. In reality, obesity is not that simple.

A big problem here is that MDs with no training in research or scientific method put together a “study” or two, where they gather all kinds of observational data, have a statistician apply every statistical test possible to the data, find a correlation (e.g. that high soda consumption and obesity are correlated), and jump from there to concluding that a correlation is a causation. And they think they are actually doing research.

In this case, these researchers are taking their correlation a step further, insisting not only that it proves a causation, but trying to use that correlation as an excuse to control how other people eat. And the result, if they are successful, could backfire badly: kids deprived of sugar WILL gorge on it, any chance they get—and then, they WILL gain weight, just from all the excess calories.

And the causative relationship between excess calorie consumption and obesity has been very well documented...

Politics aside, the moment alcohol enters the blood stream it turns into sugar.

Actually, not. The first step in alcohol metabolism involves converting it to acetaldehyde, and mostly takes place in the liver. The acetaldehyde can be further converted so that it enters the citric acid cycle, which is also used in sugar metabolism, to create energy.

This gives a nice overview of what happens when people drink.

you deserve a better explanation, I was arguing in another thread that giving the federal government the power to determine what we eat, drink, smoke is a bad idea. That was in a war on drugs thread and I pointed out that the feds might just decide that stuff other then pot might be deemed bad and ruled illegal. Then this thread popped up, and I used my opponents arguments to argue against sugar. Bottom line is it is no business of the feds what I eat, drink or smoke.

But yet, HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) is not only encouraged but subsidized ! HFCS is much worse for you than regular sugar !

Actually, the government has programs that meddle in the free market pricing of sugar. One of the reasons that HFCS is used so much in American food production is the combination of the subsidies to the corn producers (i.e. ADM), they government also keeps the US prices of sugar artificially high. The reason Mexican Coca Cola (and for that matter, pretty much everywhere else) uses cane sugar is because it's actually quite a bit cheaper than HFCS everywhere else in the world.

Thanks ‘’mom’. But it does turn into sugar in the blood.. This is what doctors who have treated me told me. Believe me, I know what happens when people drink. I certainly used to know what happened to me. But happily that was 22 years ago this month. I don’t live that way anymore, one day at a time.
