Shingletown man arraigned in karaoke shooting

"I can't believe he shot me."

That's what a Shingletown man reportedly said while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive Thursday after his father allegedly shot him after growing irked at his country music karaoke singing.

William Henry Oller Sr., 70, was arraigned Monday in Shasta County Superior Court on attempted murder and other charges in connection with the shooting of William Carr Oller Jr., 50.

Oller's appointed deputy public defender entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, and Oller is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Feb. 14.

Oller's bail was raised from $500,000 to $750,000. He remains in Shasta County jail.

According to a Shasta County sheriff's summary of events, the junior Oller told investigators the shooting erupted after he and his father argued over his playing of karaoke music. The report did not specify what song might have ignited the argument and sheriff's detectives have said they don't know.

At one point, the sheriff's report said, the elder Oller, who lives in the Sacramento area and was visiting his son's home, left the Sites Road residence and made a statement to the effect of "I'm going to shut you up."

He then went to his pickup, grabbed a semi-automatic pistol and pointed it at his approaching son who had gone outside to talk to him, the report said.

The authorities do not know exactly how many people have been killed warbling “My Way” in karaoke bars over the years in the Philippines, or how many fatal fights it has fueled. But the news media have recorded at least half a dozen victims in the past decade and includes them in a subcategory of crime dubbed the “My Way Killings.”

The killings have produced urban legends about the song and left Filipinos groping for answers. Are the killings the natural byproduct of the country’s culture of violence, drinking and machismo? Or is there something inherently sinister in the song?

” shot him after growing irked at his country music karaoke singing. “

There’s not a jury in the world that would convict....

This story is practically a country song. Just needs three cords, a steel guitar, and maybe some cowbell.

My son was wailin’ Waylon
“Good Hearted Woman,” I recalls
It made me awful angry
So I shot him in the ... er ... hall.

One of my favorite tv characters! And, it’s Pickles!

That was one of the greatest tv shows. Carl Reiner is a comic genius. If only he didn’t have that kid....
