So, we shouldnt worry about the poor because we have a welfare state that keeps them on a crutch (or a float). I understand that his focus is on the middle class and that he believes these were the people hurt the most by the financial situation in America, but is the underlying philosophy here to just fix holes in the safety net or should we be trying to fix the entitlement mentality that helped pull us into this debt? This should be red meat for Newt who worked to reform welfare. Some are defending this as being taken out of context, and it very easily could be
but the underlying philosophy to keep the poor a float in their dependency on the government sounded pretty clear.

Quick, somebody! Get this Quote to newt!
And to Rush and Beck, if they can get their head out of their a$$es for a minute.
Limbaugh was all over this in his first hour...
and I know poor people who plan to vite for Willie Mitty again this time...
and some mega rich too...
will this make them change their minds ???
I am starting to think Willard is like Soetero...credentialed but unintelligent.
Romney will just bet you $10,000 there’s a law/tax he can pass to patch the net, or somebody he can pay to make the law or tax.
I am not a Romney fan. but that was a major screw-up. I bet Romney is sitting in a room somewhere with his head in his hands right now wishing he could take that back. THAT’S going to leave a mark!
This is a major stick-the-foot-in-the-mouth moment for Myth Remulak in less than 24 hours! It is all over the Internet and is posted on Facebook too so I believe Newt has this and will use it to his advantage.
That quote right there will sink him in the general. No matter how he tries backtrack.
I literally can not stand Rick Santorum. He reminds me of Huckabee. I wish he would pack it in and go home. He is just an angry looking distateful man. Reminds me of an uptight nosey neighbor.
Go Newt. He is the best.
Newt or the Democrats are going to go crazy with that quote n tv ads!
they probably should

The only thing that is taken out of context is coming from those who claim that Romney is a Republican.
“Safety-Net” Willy, the mild-mannered Massachusetts Moderate, who can’t even park his bicycle straight.
I DO love these looooooooooooong Primary Campaigns!
It may very well sink his chance at the nomination.
This is what has been bothering me about Romney’s quote.
Taken in context, he seems to be saying that all we need to do about the poor is provide a safety net.
As opposed to the idea that we should find ways to raise people out of poverty so they can join the middle (or even upper) class.
Romney’s mindset seems exactly the same as the Democrats.
Limbaugh is discussing this again right now, that the media will attack ANY nominee in this way in order to shift focus from Obama.
I suggest we work to nominate Newt or Rick and not focus on mocking any of the republicans.
Rush is also discussing that more people favor Newt over Santorum based on name recognition and electability. All sounds correct to me. It’s not simple and we have to operate within current political reality.
You KNOW Whom I am thanking right now.
Let all that has been concealed
Be revealed.
romney. Waving his perfumed hanky at his adoring subjects out the window of his luxury carriage.
Can he buy a lot of votes?
Willy-Boy, Willy-Boy.
Can he buy a lot of votes?
Charming Willy.
He can buy a lot of votes,
In a twinkling of his eye.
But hes cool shark,
And cannot leave his PAC Men.
