NBC 5 has learned that Fort Worth-based American Airlines may cut between 10,000 and 15,000 jobs across the company.
It is estimated that 1,000 of those jobs to be cut will be at the company's maintenance base at Alliance Airport in north Fort Worth.
A meeting where AMR executives are expected to lay out the company's plan for moving forward began mid-morning Wednesday. The plan is expected to include layoffs, pension and pay cuts, and the possible closure of an airplane maintenance facility at Fort Worth's Alliance Airport.

American Airlines' parent company AMR filed for bankruptcy in November of last year and said Tuesday that they lost $904 million in the month of December -- more than the first nine months of 2011 combined.

I'd love to blame this on Obama, and the Hopey-Changey economy Democrats created, but that is only part of the story.

Agreed... However, I think this number is sand bagging buy management as a starting point with the Unions to negotiate the actual number.

It’s not Miami that’s in danger.
It’s Los Angeles, Kansas City, Ft. Worth, and San Juan that is in trouble.
St. Louis is all but gone now, relegated to a “Focus city’, and that’s only because of TWA’s huge Frequent Flyer base there.
San Juan never really panned out due to the lack of premium traffic within the Carribean. Safety doesn’t trump service.
And AMR management bet that Obama COULD turn the economy around. MAN, was that a bad bet.
I wonder if my friends dopey girlfriend who the Local Union rep for AA will see a job change....
I do not wish job loss on anyone (except liberal politicians) but this could mean she will be hanging out more in the hood...
The National Mediation Board regulates union affairs in the airline and railroad industries.
Its no issue. The Obamas have assured us that there are plenty of jobs out there, so its not an issue. And, if they can’t find a job after being laid off, just stop looking. That way, you won’t be considered “unemployed” even though you don’t have a job and can’t find one, and the national unemployment rate will continue racing down to the 6-7 percent level in time for the election.
BTw the hanger is the largest cantilever building in the world. I think it holds 5 or 6 jets wingtip to wingtip, all through one open door.
