Ed Gillespie: Don’t Discount Florida Surprise
Newsmax ^ | 30 Jan 2012 | Paul Scicchitano

Posted on 01/30/2012 7:49:38 PM PST by Qbert

Republican political strategist and former White House counselor Ed Gillespie tells Newsmax that it would be a mistake to “discount” a Florida surprise in Tuesday’s primary battle and that the race is still too fluid to call with just hours to go before the start of regular voting.

“The polls are fluid and I don’t discount anyone’s chance to come out on top until voter’s vote,” Gillespie said in an exclusive interview on Monday. “You know that’s one of the things I think that people need to respect the process and respect the voters. And there have been surprises all along the way, and we’ll just see what happens in Florida, but I wouldn’t right now say anybody’s out of the question.”

“I don’t believe that Florida is going to end the race one way or another,” declares Gillespie. “If Gov. Romney wins in Florida, he’ll cement his front-runner status but I don’t think it will be over by any stretch of the imagination at that point.”

[Snip]

“A lot of the conventional wisdom about these things has kind of been thrown out the window in this election cycle and analysts will be poring over it and looking at the margin and where people got their votes and that kind of thing,” said Gillespie, who served as counselor to the president during the George W. Bush administration.

“I’m not sure there is — given the nature of the schedule and kind of lull that is February —that there is a minimum that the speaker needs to get to maintain his campaign.”

If Newt pulls this one out, will Mitt just go away?

I’d love to see Newt pull out a win in FL if only by 1 percent.

Polls are propaganda.. ALL OF THEM...
They are made 100% to influence the weak minded..

If you are weak minded you care about them..
If you are NOT you could care less..

Polls in the news is really “SEDITION”...
They manipulate the public.. in a negative way..
Pity that “SEDITION” is more or less Legal..

I volunteer to pull the trap on a Gang Gallows on the White House lawn.. in 2012..
Yes; I do have a “list”...

Intrade has Romney at 98.5%, but that’s people who like to gamble on votes, not necessarily voters.

Awful lot of midwesterners retire to Florida. Especially on the Gulf side. Bradenton, Tampa/St Pete, Naples, etc. Plenty of people who don't want to see Romney f* with their health insurance(Medicare).

Heck, I wouldn’t care if it were just by 8 votes . . . Go NEWT!!! (or however many the number was in IA, now that would be just delicious).

Hmmm...he’s saying it’s not over after FL. That may be good news...they may be concerned that Newt is moving and if Romney loses wouldn’t the narrative be it’s over for Romney if he can’t win Florida where he outspent all his opponents over 4 to 1?

If Santorum dropped out it would be over for Romney.

Yes he needs to drop out, but I have one question. Why is it no one ever calls for Ron Paul to drop out?

"With PPP @ 8pts, IA @ 5/6pts, and this article, something is going on big time ..."

Yep. I saw those polls- then I saw other polls today that had a 14 or 20 point difference (Suffolk). Either this is as fluid a race as it gets- or there is some really dreadful polling out there...

I’m in NE FL St Augustine to be exact and so we’re one of the most republican counties in the state but I remember going to the south part and might as well have been in the north .

Awful place
