Vice President Joe Biden confessed this weekend that he advised President Obama not to launch the mission that ultimately killed Osama bin Laden last spring.
During remarks at a Democratic congressional retreat this weekend, Biden explained that when it came time to make the final decision, he had some lingering uncertainties about whether the 9/11 mastermind was in the suspected compound in Pakistan.
When the president asked his top advisers for their final opinion on the mission, all of them were hesitant, except for the former CIA director, now Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, Biden said.
Every single person in that room hedged their bet except Leon Panetta. Leon said go. Everyone else said, 49, 51, Biden said, as he offered the unsolicited details of the decision-making process.
He got to me. He said, Joe, what do you think? And I said, You know, I didnt know we had so many economists around the table. I said, We owe the man a direct answer. Mr. President, my suggestion is, dont go. We have to do two more things to see if hes there, Biden recalled.
While the vice president did not explain what those two more things were, the next morning the president gave National Security Adviser Tom Donilon the go to launch the SEAL raid of the compound.
He knew what was at stake, not just the lives of those brave warriors, but literally the presidency, Biden said.

Biden is a fool. Certifiable.
Let’s face it. Obama didn’t see this as his chance to get Bin Laden. He saw it as his chance to get re-elected. That’s why he was so gung ho to do it. Too bad no one cares about it anymore-—and few gave him the credit to begin with. “
Gung-ho? I’ll bet the Wookie gave the final command.
I’ve yet to read this garbage, but will predict that the article points out the bravery of Obie, going against old Joe’s sage advice.....now on to the article.
So that’s why he keeps Biden around.....Wait until he gives his advice then do the REVERSE!
And only a fool would select him as VP.
Seal 6 killing OBL on Obama’s watch is his greatest and only real accomplishment. It’s a difficult accomplishment to knock, except by saying anyone in Obama’s position would’ve done the same thing and authorized the raid. That argument takes away the uniqueness of Obama’s decision and makes him look ordinary.
I see Biden’s comments as a way to blunt that argument. Everyone advised against it. Now Obama looks like an independent cowboy who makes tough decisions.
I don’t think it will work, but might as well give it the old college try.
Just another reason that I think the whole scenario was a “pretend” mission.
MSM is mostly likely doing Obama’s ground work to give Joe the deep six.
He's talking to the President, so who is the "man" you owe an answer to, eh?
OBL?
Soros?
Al Franken?
Al Gore?
I don’t buy this for a second. They are just trying to make a no-brainer decision look like some kind of profile in courage.
Kinda early to be taking one for the team, ain’t it, Jo-Jo?
It wasn’t 100% certain that the person in the compound was bin Laden.
Anyone would have hoped that at least a few people in the room were preaching caution when it came to an armed incursion into another sovereign nation without solid evidence that it was bin Laden’s hideout. Even if the ultimate call to take the risk and launch the raid was the right call, you need a few cautious voices in the room.
Exactly, we still don’t really know. We saw no pictures and the body was dumped pdq.
.
Good post and well said. I hadn’t thought of that.
Right, Osama is dead. I’d like to see some proof.
Oh wait, I forgot our savior Obama was president and thought Bush still was. I mean, if Bush never produced one photo, one video and no body would the left just take his word?
