Tennessee State Sen. Stacey Campfield is on the Hallerin Hilton Hill radio show this morning. Closely associated with the so-called "Don't say gay", Campfield said he was denied service at the Bistro at the Bijou Theater, 807 South Gay Street, Knoxville, TN 37902-1711--phone 865-544-0537. Without giving a name, he said a woman came out of the back as said 'You are a homophobe. I am not serving you'.
I’d prefer not to do business at a restaurant that promotes men having sexual relations with other men. For starters, it is unsanitary, as demonstrated by the rate of Hepatitis, aids, etc. that ravages the homosexual population.
I’d rather take my chances with pink slime at a burger joint.
Gays have their own street in Knoxville?
Being denied service beats have some dyke spit in your dinner every day of the week in my book.
If he is a homophobe what is he doing at the Bijou Theater on gay street?
I’m fine with that.
Restaurants should be free to serve whomever they want. Granted, it’s probably illegal and won’t ever be prosecuted, but the restaurant belongs to someone else, and they should be free to do whatever they want with it.
If she had said “You are a black person. I am not serving you” it would have been international news.
Yes, but look at the irony. By refusing to serve a ‘homophobe’, the waitress is herself a ‘family values -phobe’.
This is what we want: Freedom of Conscience and private property rights.
Now we just need to get this for Christians and not just secular bigots.
Although I'd recommend any Freeper in Knoxville to boycott the disgusting place.
They don’t need the money, so don’t give them any money.
A long time ago, I decided NOT to be personally offended when/if such discrimination occurred/occurs. I have made it my policy to never attempt to force a private business-owner to do business with me. After all, its a free country and if a particular business-owner does not want my business, I would be a fool to try to force my hard-earned money into his cash register, would I not?
And, on a side note: Is he sure it was a woman who spoke to him?
Three times the gays will now visit this establishment! Good for them!! Of course, this means that gay related STD’s will triple as well.
“... came out of the back as said ‘You are a homophobe. I am not serving you’.”
We don’t FEAR you, we find you DISGUSTING.
If you refused to serve a homosexual it would be international news. Never mind the racial component.
Funny how many folks who ride will enter an establishment 'incognito' when they aren't riding.
I know of a bar whose owner made the mistake of telling a couple of fellow riders (dressed for the road) they didn't want bikers in their bar.
When they graciously left, so did over half of the people in the bar, who just happened to not be in leathers that day. Within 24 hours, the word was out, and the business didn't make it a year.
Any restaurant which would kick me out for being 'homophobic' doesn't need my business, and other people should be advised of the fact (and the reason) to spare themselves the embarassment and/or inconvenience of being refused service.
It is amazing how quickly 'the word' about a discriminatory business can spread, isn't it?
Fortunately, in recent years, with motorcycles enjoying a previously unseen level of popularity, discrimination against "bikers" or those in "biker attire" has been reduced to near-non-existent in my neck of the woods.
