Republicans throwing out numerous invalid recall signatures in Waukesha
Today's TMJ Channel 4 ^ | 1/27/12 | WTMJ News Team

WAUKESHA - Republicans are getting their first look at all the recall signatures against Governor Walker.

Volunteers at the Waukesha County Republican headquarters told TODAY'S TMJ4 they're thrilled to finally get started. They began reviewing signatures Friday afternoon, launching a statewide mission to tackle the recall effort.

Packed into a Waukesha warehouse, Republicans got their hands on recall petitions for the first time. Nearly a thousand people signed up to help. "It's really positive. High energy. They're excited to get going with this process and get it over with," said executive director Cathy Waller.

Volunteers will be at the warehouse and at nine other sites like this one for the next five days. They will be closely checking every line, every name, every number.

"We're finding a lot of things that we're flagging," said Waller.

And after just hours on the job, they're already discovering discrepancies. "I would say from the many of us that have been here, there are going to be thousands that aren't going to be counted," said volunteer Ann Strakulski.

The finds are treasures for supporters and the governor as they look to whittle away at more than one million signatures.

Democrats aren't concerned by the claims or the massive Republican effort. "The children of Wisconsin didn't sign. The dead didn't sign, either," said Democratic party spokesman Graeme Zielinski. "Have a hundred. Have a thousand. Have a million victory sites around Wisconsin. You're not going to stop the recall."

Republican officials told TODAY'S TMJ4 they realize it's unlikely they'll bring the signature count below the threshold of 540,000. They maintain they're working to keep the petitions in check.

This title is incredibly misleading. We have no legal standing to actually throw out signatures. All we are doing in Waukesha and in several other counties in the sate is looking for possible errors and violations, marking them, then putting them in a database to pass it on to the attorneys. We only have copies of the petitions, the GAB has the originals, so how can we throw anything out?

The volunteer turnout has been wonderful. We've had to put up extra tables for the verification process, hundreds of people turn up daily.

Shame on channel 4 for reporting it this way.

Nearly a thousand people signed up to help.

And they and you are great Americans, every one. Are you able to photocopy the er, uh, "discrepancies?" It looks like the Dems want a prolonged, nasty legal battle....

Thank you Jean S for what you are doing for us. That goes for the other volunteers also. This is a big deal not only for Wisconsin but for all of America.

Absolutely not. We are trying to keep out process clean. Not photos of petitions allowed. I'm not working with the petitions, I'm running the phone banks in the front office temporarily while the verification is going on but I've heard some interesting stories. One page had 10 people on one page with the same address. Yeah, right. But we can't challenge that.

Thank you Jean for what you and the rest of the volunteers are doing. Let them know that real Americans are behind them.

What to have fun with the media/unions/Democrat? Pass on to the media that thousands of signatures have been found to be invalid. Stir up a hornets nest, watch the union thugs go nuts, see the Democrats backpedal as fast as humanly possible.

I do the same thing after casting ballots in the elections and someone jams a microphone in my face to ask how and why I voted. I'll always give them the opposite of what I've done just to mess with their tiny little minds.

Absolutely not. We are trying to keep out process clean. Not photos of petitions allowed. **can you please elaborate on what can or can’t be challenged?? I read a story about a volunteer claiming that several of her students (16 yr olds) claimed they had signed the petitions, along with people bragging that they signed several times/duplicates.

“They will be closely checking every line, every name, every number. “

Do they also get to use google earth to see if an address is really an empty lot or shopping center?

Thank God for the work you all are doing....is Walker still in good shape in the polls there? I remember reading he was enjoying support over the union thugs.

“One page had 10 people on one page with the same address”

Why couldn’t that be challenged?

I’ve been entering data from petitions via Verify The Recall and so far have not found anything funny - no Mickey Mouse or Adolph Hitler (yet). That being said, a lot of signatures look like doctors’ prescriptions and can’t be verified. Then again, some peoples’ printing is SO bad, the signatures are more legible!

One thing I’ve learned from all this is to WRITE LEGIBLY if you ever want your name to be counted in a petition.

Dear Recall Organizers,

As much as we appreciate the the process of law and petition process, we are most disturbed that somehow, someway, our names have been associated with the Gov. Walker recall.

Can you please take our name off the list? Thanks.

Signed,

Micky Mouse
Pluto
Minni Mouse
Darth Vader
Santa Clause
Donald Duck
Bugs Bunny
The Thundercats (except Mumra, who supports the recall)
The starting lineup of the Manchester United
Space Ghost
The casualty list of the HMS Titanic
The Classic Star Trek security guard in Season 2, episode 15
The Count of Monte Cristo
Zorro
D.B. Cooper
Luke Skywalker
And the denizens of the Oak Hill Cemetery.

I think they probably can be challenged but we only have a limited time and even though we have a lot of volunteers, we don’t have enough to check that kind of thing.

It would be nice if the GAB did their job and verified that valid addresses are used but the won’t. They also screwed us today, they sent over hundreds of petitions that they just found because of a supposedly corrupt file.

There’s a certain irony in that statement using the word “corrupt”. Thank you for the work you guys are doing and may God Bless it.

“getting their first look at all the recall signatures against Governor Walker”

Why are they just now getting to look at the signatures? Seems like getting the cart before the horse.

Please, please, please make those that submitted fraudulent signatures face court and penalties. With no fear of retribution the current sad state of affairs will continue. God Bless you for the work you are doing.

Wait...let me understand...you’re expecting the media in Milwaukee to give you a fair representation?? Keep up the good work and don’t even pay attention to the Urinal, TMJ or the rest.
