CHARACTER MATTERS AND ROMNEY'S WORRIES ME (Mark Levin)

I am beginning to think that the nature and level of attacks being launched by Mitt Romney against Newt Gingrich, which he would surely use against any conservative threatening his nomination, are going to make it very difficult for Romney to unite the different factions of the GOP and the conservative movement behind his candidacy should he win the nomination. While I have said that I would vote for Rick Santorum, I am appalled at the "anything goes" assault on Gingrich. See here:

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/29/us/politics/the-calculations-that-led-romney-to-the-warpath.html?pagewanted=all?

Romney is not a conservative in the traditional sense, and he has a record of big-government Republicanism. Even many years after the success of the Reagan administration, he sought to distance himself from Reagan and the GOP, self-identifying as a progressive and independent. Thus, he resorts to spending multi-millions of dollars trashing his opponents, rather than providing thoughtful arguments on conservatism and constitutionalism. Lest we forget, it was Gingrich who was trying to run a positive campaign and who offered to debate Romney one-on-one, asking Romney to stop with the millions in unanswered ads attacking him. Romney declined. I have no doubt that Romney would do the same thing to Santorum if Santorum was rising in the polls, albeit on different issues.

Levin is a patriot and this column proves it. As does his radio show - every single day - as you well know it.

Later in the show, Levin did indeed take it to Romney as does the article above. But he couldn't see what was happening with Drudge. Even the NY Times saw it:

A team of some of the most fearsome researchers in the business, led by Mr. Romney’s campaign manager, Matt Rhoades, spent days dispensing negative information about Mr. Gingrich, much of it finding its way to the influential Drudge Report, which often serves as a guide for conservative talk radio and television assignment editors and to which Mr. Rhoades has close ties.

The effort hit a peak by Thursday, when the site was virtually taken over by headlines assailing Mr. Gingrich, whose advisers said they eventually gave up on trying to persuade the Drudge staff to spare them, acknowledging, in the words of one aide, that “very little can be done.”

“Mark also said he would support Romney if he is the candidate - on that I am personally conflicted.”

How can you possibly be conflicted? The only two options would be Romney or Odumbo. And you are conflicted?

Everyone has to accept that what the media done has hurt Newt. Take your anger out on them by voting Newt. I can tell you the grassroots is not giving up to the long end. We do understand the people who claim to be on the side of liberty is waffling and being weak. This will cause huge damage to themselves overtime because many will see them as part of the problem (money over integrity)

I love ya Mark, but it is time to put up or shut up! WE THE PEOPLE are asking our Conservative voices to come together to stop Romney in Florida. If Mark supports Santorum, OK. However, Santorum has no shot in Florida and he knows it. You as the Santorum voters could make Florida part of the Conservative movement if you would jump on board and help Newt win Florida. If Santorum has what it takes in the later states, it will come out in time.

I make the same request of Hannity, Ingraham, Limbaugh, all of them. HIT THE BLOGS, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, CONSERVATISM IS IN NEED OF YOUR HELP!

My personal choice would be to leave the top of the ticket slot blank (I have before) and campaign all out for down ticket conservatives. Never would I vote for Obama or Libertarian.

Levin has kept his head through this so far.

Perhaps the question comes down to whether the rest are patriots and media statesmen, or entertainment media whores.

Media is a business, hence money talks. Looks like Drudge got hooked up. Next?

I don’t dislike Romney, but my problem is that I have never heard him articulate the principles upon which he makes decisions. For example, at one time he had an economic plan of some 50+ points. However, I don’t recall very much that leads to a simple and sound set values by which I could anticipate how he would make these decisions in the future.

Further, anyone who cannot understand how offensive an individual mandate is to liberty does not understand that subject.

A person whose values were rooted in sound economics and respect for the rights of others would start out by saying certain things such as:

1) Your money is yours;

2) Government must be limited to only performing functions that are enumerated in the Constitution;

3) Government must only levy enough taxes to fund those limited and well defined functions;

4) Taxes have two functions: to fund government and to make the cost of government functions real to as many citizens as possible;

5) When we inflate our currency, we are stealing from all holders of that currency. We commit theft by dilution just as surely as when a bartender waters down the liquor;

6) There are only so many jelly beans in the jar: we cannot spend more than we take in. Period.

7) Government must not view citizens as its tax slaves who exist only to fund government;

8) Taxes should only be levied on US-sourced income; Restore full economic freedom to US citizens living abroad. Repeal FACTA.

I am sure Freepers could add to the list.

I heard it the first time. All he said was for “us” not to be hard on Drudge. I really like and admire Levin and I understand the problems of loyalty towards friends.

I haven’t gone to Drudge since he started this nonsense but I’ll continue to listen and support Levin.

Rush was cautious on the day the attacks hit, but he has been highly critical of those attacks since then. Rush is not in the business of endorsing candidates in the Republican primary, but he's not taking the historical revisionism of Romney as acceptable behavior.

We live in NH, and so have manual ballots, and we have to “check” our choice of the candidates.

We need an extra box: “None of the above”.

Why are they waiting until it is too late to show the nation what Romney is? Where are our friends in the media?

It appears that Romney and the Mormon power players have been buying the media for a while now--and politicians like Nikki Haley, Chris Christie, Connie Mack et al as well.

I used to believe that Obama and the left would quash Romney, but then I was told how the Mormons have packed the CIA and the FBI and other power structures around the world.

The Mormons may be much more powerful than the Left.

If they can bring their power and wealth to bear...Romney will beat Obama like an old rug.

Rush smothered Newt on Bloody Thursday, then on Friday after the debate was done, the blow to Newt delivered with Drudge, he tried to cover his tracks, placate his audience, and do it while giving as little to Newt as he could, he did that by using Santorum and even introducing his brother’s endorsement of Santorum as a beard.

Romney’s dishonest attacks on Newt will likely have a backlash.

Before the last 2 debates, Newt was my first choice, but I was happy with Romney as a possibility. Now I am disgusted by Romney. He removed his nice-guy facade to show what a sleaze he really is.

Romney will lose because people of liberty who are true to themselves could never support that.

All of the money in the world cannot buy honor back when someone lies as he does each day.

CD says: “Mark also said he would support Romney if he is the candidate - on that I am personally conflicted.”

SgtH responds: How can you possibly be conflicted? The only two options would be Romney or Odumbo. And you are conflicted?

Maybe because I've known, liked, and even loved my share of people who've declared themselves as homosexuals and seen the spiritual despair that almost always afflicts them, that I am entirely relieved of feeling any "conflicted" feeling about withholding my vote from Romney at the risk of defaulting to another four years to Obama.

Out of all the despicable advances Romney has made in statism and enalavement of Americans to government over God and Country, the single most condemning was when, as governor, he issued an official proclamation endorsing a Gay Youth Pride event at a Massachusetts middle school. These are CHILDREN -- junior high kids -- innocents -- being congratulated and encouraged by a Republican governor for embracing and for some, declaring their own, homosexuality. These are kids too young to know much of anything about sex and spirituality, still taking the bus to school, not even old enough to drive! Sex, let alone Biblically proscribed perversion of sex -- among minors -- has no place in schools and CERTAINLY no place as worthy of postive attention from the state's most powerful political office. IT WAS DEPRAVED AND EVIL for Romney to have done this. Period.

It put into perspective the equally craven act of including cheap and easy taxpayer funded abortion-on-demand as part of the Massachusetts health care plan. THAT also was DEPRAVED AND EVIL, Period.

That any American can vote FOR such a person who has actively promoted and cultivated such wickedness and evil by way of elected political power -- if that isn't cause for feeling "conflicted," then God help you.

Those who think Romney would present a "lesser evil" to Obama are fooling themselves. Obama and Romney are EQUALLY depraved.

GODSPEED NEWT GINGRICH.
