Their first and only date was an innocent stroll through Central Park.
But when an Upper East Side woman rejected her running-club pals bid for an encore, the creep lost his mind and embarked on an 18-year reign of terror stalking her through six states as she desperately tried to escape his reach.
I was terrified of him, Linda Arnaud, 45, told The Post of twisted Queens native Moses Shepard, who last week was finally found guilty of federal stalking charges.
He showed up at my place of work. He showed up at my school, at my apartment he showed up on the subway platform. He stalked me all over New York City.
The frightened elementary-school teacher-turned-yoga instructor spent two decades moving to New Mexico, Arizona, California and Connecticut praying that each stop would be her last.
He always found her bombarding Arnaud with phone calls, e-mails, letters, CDs and porn, according to prosecutors.
When Arnaud got restraining orders, Shepard would wait until they expired and then renew his sick fantasy of reuniting with her.
Finally, in 2010 with Arnaud living in Connecticut Shepard sent her a death threat that shook her to the core.
He said hes coming for me. And thats when I feared for my life, Arnaud said.
He came here; he scoped out my house; he scoped out my work, she said. Hes never taken no for an answer.
Cops got an arrest warrant and alerted the FBI and Shepard was finally arrested at his Arizona home in May 2010.
Last week, he was convicted by a federal jury, but faces only a maximum of five years in prison.
I hope that justice is served and that theres more awareness that stalking is a serious crime, Arnaud said.

She’s gone thru an 18 year sentence of stalking and he gets a 5 year sentence.
Five years? Plenty of time for her to move to a “shall issue” or better state and get really proficient with the handgun of her choice.
Twit judge obviously didn’t hear about “let the punishment fit the crime.”
Does she really justify this sort of stalking?
I have a simple answer to this lady’s problem: supersonic lead injection. Had this been a member of my family, the stalker would have died years ago.
Note to Mr. Shepard, just about every other human you meet is a woman. There really is no shortage of them. They are practically everywhere (except where you will now be living). Find one you dont have to chase for two freaking decades!! You’ll be much happier, trust me.
He’ll spend whatever fraction of that 5 years he actually serves thinking that the fact she showed up in court to testify to have him put away is proof positive that she really loves him...
It’s a shame she didn’t get a gun and solve the problem in a permanent manner when he showed up and gave her reason to “fear for her life”. Now she has to be on guard for five years later, when he gets out and is angry and crazy, instead of just crazy.
Persistent little bugger isn’t he? You’d think that over the course of 18 years she could have saved up enough money to have his legs broken...
maybe...depending on what he looks like.
Laws and Papers do not stop this type of person... concrete and steel work well, as does copper and lead.
I’m sure she looked better when it all started, smartass.
It went on that long and she didn’t DO anything? She should have moved south, gotten a gun, and then taken care of the problem herself.
Wow, someone goes through that much trouble ! This goes beyond simple curiosity.
Personally, there has been many people who I crossed paths with but some I would have liked to stay in touch with but they chose to end contact, others I lost contact with and lastly some, I want no contact with.
In fact those who choose not to have contact with me, I go out of my way to avoid them just like those who I don’t want contact with.
All in all, I can look any of them up through the Internet but that is as far as it goes. Simple curiosity and also a means for me to be aware if I go into their turf so as to avoid contact.
Same here.
He was convicted in federal court. There is no longer parole in the federal system; there is a limited amount of time off ofr good behavior in prison, but it cannot exceed 15% of the sentence. So he will serve, at a minimum, 51 months.
They should have a photo of the stalker, not the victim.
I question the use of smart in you comment.. dumb seems to work better to me..
