No Murtha Ship!
Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus plans to honor the late Congressman John Murtha by giving his name to the Navy's new LPD (Transport Dock Ship), to be launched in 2013.
In doing so, Sec. Mabus is breaking the Navy's tradition of naming its San Antonio-class amphibious transports after American cities. He is also honoring a man who:
- 1) was one of the most corrupt members of the U.S. Congress, and
- 2) called our Marines murderers who killed Iraqi women and children "in cold blood."
We believe that such a man does not deserve to be honored by the U.S. Navy. If you agree, please help us petition Secretary Mabus to reconsider this outrageous decision....

The rule has always been,”Once a Marine,always a Marine.”
However,in the case of this SOB Murtha, that does not apply.

Lieutenant (junior grade) (LTJG) is a junior commissioned officer rank in the United States Navy. Did he go to Anapolis? The two year enlistment is suspicious, indeed.

If I knew I could go into the NAVY and serve 2 years and get out
in 1970, I wouldn't have bothered trying so hard to keep my student deferment. I would have volunteered in a heartbeat. But when I went to the Navy Recruiter back then I was told that if I wanted to enlist, I had to sign a 6 year commitment. The Marines had a 3 year minimum requirement at that time if I recall correctly. Even the Army had a 3 year minimum commitment if you enlisted. The only way you could get a 2 year stint in any service was if you were drafted. I don't believe the Navy drafted this clown.
So how did our esteemed Secretary of the Navy get out of the service after just 2 years? Has anyone even bothered to ask?

I suggest they name a latrine after him so people can really enjoy dropping murtha’s and wipe their Obam’s afterward.
(ok not my style of talk but read this about naming a ship after murtha and my DH made this comment. LOL)

Mabus was born in Starkville and is a fourth-generation Mississippian; he grew up in Ackerman, the only child of the owner of the local hardware store. After attending public schools, he graduated summa cum laude from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi, with a B.A. in English and political science. He earned an M.A. in political science from Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School. He also served two years in the Navy as a surface warfare officer from 1970 to 1972 aboard the cruiser USS Little Rock,[1] and worked as a law clerk in the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Murtha was a stinking traitor to the men and women in uniform. If Mabus goes through with this, hopefully, the crew will scuttle the ship before it becomes any more of an embarrassment to America than it will be.

Little Rock was the 6th Fleet Flagship. While it had decent combat-capability (one triple 6" turret, one twin 5" turret and a dual-arm Talos launcher), it's primary purpose was to haul an Admiral and his staff around showing the flag. My guess is that Mabus got to see a lot of the Med from all the liberty calls in various ports.

Maybe that was during the time when you could gain a commission in the Navy Reserve and serve two years active with six years reserve duty.
