Forget the indirect attacks and distant exchanges between the Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich campaigns through the media. The Romney campaign pledged this week to run a “a full racketing operation,” right in Gingrich territory.
A source close to the campaign told ABC News there will be a Romney surrogate at every public Gingrich event in Florida standing by to rebut Gingrich’s speeches to the media.
“The campaign is entering a phase now where we are defining the terms of the Florida race,” a Romney staffer said.
The staffer said it wasn’t a sign of fear on the Romney campaign’s side.
However, the campaign didn’t feel the need to trail Gingrich when he was in 4th in Iowa.
The campaign decided Sunday night to send a staff member to Florida full time, specifically to handle the Romney surrogate group set to trail Gingrich.
Romney’s regional press secretary, Amanda Henneberg, was on hand at two Gingrich campaign stops Wednesday to offer Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fla., who spoke to several members of the press about what he thought were Gingrich’s inconsistencies in his speeches.
At the first event today, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, was on hand along with Romney staffer Dave Kochel. At the second event, Mack and his wife Mary Bono Back joined the group.

A Romney surrogate? How bizarre. But maybe this is the angel Moroni or somebody from the planet Romney intends to get after his death, or maybe one of the many wives who will be gracing that planet...

The Washingon DC party is terrified of Gingrich...Romney who represents the party’s right and Obama, the party’s left have this much in agreement...Newt might stop the gravytrain...can’t have that.
Gingrich is talking about investigating the fed...and the crooks who ran fannie/freddie...can’t have that.
I honestly believe if Gingrich gets the nomination the Washington insiders will consider assassination. They are that scared of him.
I’m betting that since audience reaction will be allowed at the next debate, Romney and his people will try to pack the venue with their own.

Romney is really attacking the Tea Party conservatives, Newt is just the surrogate target.
Third party would spell the death of the GOP, ensure an Obama victory, and possibly doom this nation forever.
Electing Romney would doom this nation forever.

or to use a poker term, they are going “all in”. But scorched earth may better describe the ultimate results.
This is fascinating to watch for me, because it is as if we are getting a full view of the underbelly of the republican machine - in and out of the “official” party.
Even Coulter is starting to look like a character in one of those movies where a creature goes from looking like a beautiful woman to a hideous beast. This is quite unprecedented.

Newt actually donated to Connie Mack in 2003. Keep in mind Newt's never donated to Democrats...Romney donated to several in 1992.

My sentiments exactly. Interesting how he's taking a page from the Occupy crowd and his father's old pal, Saul Alinsky.
The establishment is projecting, just like liberals. After the democrats have screamingly accused republicans of dividing the country these last 3 years, it is the conservatives who stood up and fought while the establishment hides in the corner and waits for the next opportunity to ‘cut a deal’.
What we are witnessing is the establishment GOP, determined to kill the elephant by suicide. We may or may not get Newt through to the nomination, but the establishment is assuring us that we all are going down. This crap is not doing anything to make Romney a good candidate.
Lifting Romney up is like trying to pick up a turd from the clean side.
